Husband, father, geek, worker bee. Fan of board games, zombies, Godzilla, Spurs, food trucks, pickleball, international travel. Love is love.
#boardgames wise, Freya's Swamp is new and a really good worker placement game. Great art, quick turns, medium complexity.
It's been ~5 yrs since its last play. Tekhenu, Obelisk of the Sun, hit the table again. We really enjoyed it, in that crunchy Euro, frustrating choices way. I love the dice drafting/action selection, the point saladness, and early game tight resources. 3 players took just under 3 hours. #boardgames
All setup for Tomorrow night's Tekhenu: Obelisk of the Sun. Blowing the dust off this #boardgames.
Taught Acquire to my Finance future son-in-law, who was keen to play when I described the theme. We had a great 4 player game, though a little anti-climactic as 2 hotels dominated most of the board. Good time, lots of thinking and positioning. #boardgames
I ❤️ the table presence of Kramer & Kiesling's Porta Nigra #boardgames. It's a terrific mid-weight Euro for ~$20. Draw 2 cards, play 1 (that has 2-3 actions). Buy bricks, build structure, score points, fight for majority in 4 districts. Turn in influence for bonus action card. Great decision space.
1st play of very enjoyable The Druids of Edora. Point salad. Big decision space: 7? different actions, 24 diff potions, 12 diff herbs, random tile board. 7 actions available via space, runestone, potion, amulet - each w/ own consideration. Area control w/ multiplier at end. It's a buy. #boardgames
This Friday is our #boardgames night in Quakertown, PA, USA. I'm bringing these games, primarily hoping that El Grande gets off my Shelf of Shame. I've never played but it looks terrific. I like fighty games. If I'm hosting "new to the hobby" folks, it'll be Push, Vegas Dice, Cascadia or Imhotep.
Porrrrooooo goooooaaaaal! Loving this France v Spain semi-final. Living up to its potential. I'm so impressed by the Spanish play style. #Spurs #FIFA #WorldCup2026
That Spain versus Belgium #WorldCup2026 quarterfinal was fantastic. Just a grinding battle. Great goals. No major mistakes. Loved it.
Cosmic star baby, having used two bananas tucked under its armpits to blast off, has a brilliant idea.
I made you a little unboxing video. What the game really needs is a bag to draw the tiles from. I'm not a big fan of the paper money but it works. That last orange thing is one of the hotels. Each one is shaped and colored differently.
Holy crap! Like a thunderbolt!!! 2-0 Netherlands over Brazil, with a few minutes to go. #FIFA #WORLDCUP2026
Spain-Austria was an amazing display of fluidity & teamwork by the Spaniards. They're no longer under the radar - other nations better take notice. Highest possession of all teams, record minutes without a goal, tons of talent. Pedro Poro, my favorite #Spurs, had his 1st goal for his national team.
This World Cup has been really enjoyable. Two great matches today. Both were nail biters! England struggled against Congo. The Congolese were incredibly tough but Harry Kane was (once again) remarkable! Then a brave, gritty game by the Americans against a tough Bosnia & Herzegovina opponent. ...
I got 3 #boardgames off my shelf of shame. Feya's Swamp, Container, and Moon Colony Bloodbath were all terrific. Two more sessions to grind through for Scythe: Rise of Fenris.
First time watching professional #pickleball. We went up to the #MLB event in NYC. Was enjoying it (and feeling completely inadequate in my own skill) until it had to move indoors due to rain.
I hosted a table of Cursed Court and Moon Colony Bloodbath at yesterday's #boardgames night. Everyone really enjoyed MCB (my first play). Slay the Spire, a civ game, and something else got played too.
Friday night is #boardgames night, and these are what I'm bringing. I bring 4-6 player games, and range from light to medium light. I typically host new players. I'm hoping Architects of the West Kingdom or Moon Colony Bloodbath hit the table but it all depends on player experience and preference.
Another play of Container, this time at full 5, and we 😍d it. Having the economy predominantly influenced by the players is fantastic. Figure out how to make 💵 and the timing of your actions = delicious tension. 2.25h w/ 30 min teach for 4 new players. Quality components. $39! Keeper! #boardgames
Had my 1st play of Container #boardgames, which I enjoyed, despite the 'not recommended' 3 player count. I'm bad at economic games but I love their mechanic: produce goods, sell goods, buy goods from others, auction them off or keep them. Found the mental math of how to profit and time actions fun.
My beautiful bride indulged me in a #boardgames of Carcassonne with three expansions mixed in. We normally play base game. I thoroughly enjoyed having Inns & Cathedrals, Traders & Builders, and Abbey & Mayor mixed in. That said, she beat me by 20 points! Happy Father's Day.
Anyone else enjoying #WorldCup2026? We've watched Canada v B&H USA v Paraguay Brazil v Morocco Netherlands v Japan Iran v New Zealand Argentina v Algeria England v Croatia It's been great match after great match. Wish tix hadn't been so hard to get and expensive (outside Philly). #FIFA2026
Yea olde Zombicied Black Plague #boardgames hit the table tonight. Always a good time! I've picked up a lot of the expansions and it's Green Horde sister game which enables a lot of mixing and matching to create custom scenarios.
