In two federal courts yesterday, a group of protesters received unusually long sentences after the Justice Department accused them of being members of the far left movement Antifa. The sentences range from 30 to 100 years in prison, longer than the harshest sentence handed down to any of the convicted rioters in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in 2021. ...

The sentences are extremely harsh. They're sentences that are more typical for people who have committed murder or stolen millions of dollars.

Compare these defendants to two other sets of defendants, one, their co-defendants who were accused of the same conduct, but pled guilty. They are going to be sentenced next month, and they're looking at around 15 years.

We can also think of the 1,500 people who were prosecuted in connection with the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The most any of those defendants received was 22 years, compared with the 30 to 70 years that these defendants received.

I'll tell you the moment last night when my stomach turned was when they had Medal of Honor winners escort the fighters out to the ring. There's a tradition in the U.S military that everyone, from a general officer down to private, salutes a Medal of Honor winner. And there's not a tradition that you salute mixed martial artists. And so they leverage the escorts to get the military honor guard to throw salutes as the fighters walk past. There is an inversion of patriotism there. The folks out there, last night, who we wanted to honor, were the ones who put their lives on the line for their country, not who put their lives on their line for a prize purse. And to use the one as a means of honoring the other struck me as exactly backwards. And what we can do is have a patriotism where the folks we’re honoring at America's 250th are the Medal of Honor winners. And celebrities like prize Fighters are escorting them. Because that's the kind of patriotism we want to pay tribute to.
