"This is a Northern Water Snake. Harmless to humans, they feed on fish and amphibians. Unfortunately, they are often confused for a Cottonmouth Snake. We have (at least) two living in and basking on the rocks around our pond at our home, Cedar Hill. They enter the water to feed."

"This was taken on January 28, 2026 around 5:00pm from my front door stoop when the temperature was around 37 degrees. It sits atop 18" of virgin drifted snow. You can see my partially cleared front walk beyond the snow drift. I have no idea how it was formed. No water drips there..."
