The rain has been somewhat nonstop these past couple days. So tonight I was able to run. Speaking to the students I talked about Chaco Canyon coverage and other issues I’ve written about over the years. I did tell them they have until July 29 to submit a comment to BLM about Chaco buffer zone.
This place will always hold a special place in my heart because I spent hours working from here a couple years ago. I stopped here to meet with a new source. I should give new sources a ‘welcome’ or ‘thank you’ card. A nice gesture for all the wealth of information they gave me.
Presented this morning at San Juan College in Farmington. My beautiful friend and fellow journalist Alastair invited to talk to his students about my environmental coverage.
Who will be our next Navajo President? Justin Jones or Speaker Crystalyne Curley. Both came out on top in the Navajo Nation primaries.
Radio stations KNDN and KGAK telling the radio listeners the presidential tallies in Navajo.
Today was interesting to say the least. President Buu Nygren did not give (again) his state of the nation address to council. But, he did stand outside as people confronted him.
One of his platforms is he’s against new mining on Navajo. He just finished up at a rally and super tired. I’m not endorsing him. Just letting you all know what my bro is all about.
I’ve been covering Chaco Canyon for years. This was 2019 before Deb Haaland was Interior Secretary. I’ve never gone inside Chaco. This is how close I would allow myself to go. Next wk, I’ll be doing a presentation for a group of college students on my environmental reporting over the years.
Former colleague took this of me 7 years ago today in Kayenta, according to FB memories. I was interviewing Monument Valley Coffee Co. owner Ben Parrish. I wonder if this coffee cart is still open. I should take a drive over there and see if they’re still operating.
Voted early today in the Navajo Nation election. I voted for who I want to see as President and as my chapter's council delegate. 👊
The fatherland… My dad’s side of the Navajo Nation. It was windy as hell! The wind is blowing in the clouds but no rain.
Saw this on a trash can in one of the more conservative parts of Phoenix.
Crazy how I was in Prescott for a couple days, and took this pic of the 19 Yarnell firefighters, and then I had to write up a quick breaking news article, as well as a quick updated blog post for tomorrow, on the Mina Fire that occurred near Yarnell Saturday afternoon. It’s completely contained.
We never played with legos growing up. I was always outside. So when my super smart 7 yr old nephew showed me he built this thing, maybe 20-30 min after he got it at the store, I was super impressed. He just plopped himself in the chair, ripped open the box and had at it.
I loved my time playing with the Navajo Nation Band when I was 15-21. I always wanted to play for Arizona State University’s marching band, that never happened. But being chosen to play for my tribe’s talented band was a huge honor. I love that they’re holding open rehearsals for those interested.
This was from June 2019. I hate that I wasn’t able to cover Diné Pride, or write about it. Life just gets so hectic sometimes.
Records are expensive, but it’s nice to browse on your one day off.
As someone who has reported on wildfires and interviewed wildland firefighters as they risked their lives battling these blazes, it’s heartbreaking to learn that three of them lost their lives in the line of duty yesterday near the Colorado-Utah border. Condolences to their families and crew 💔
Past couple years I’ve done this run but not this year. It’s a nice and somewhat arduous, if you don’t like hills, run. Maybe next year I’ll run it again.
Today’s assignment. Covered Attorney General Kris Mayes press conference at the AG’s office. My first time covering a press conference of hers in person.
A photographer I used to work with took this photo of me during an assignment 9 years ago, says FB memories.😄 My uniform has changed a bit. I no longer wear skinnies or flats at all.I wear my cowgirl boots and jeans.I still wear a hat. I was gifted a new Stetson the other day. 🤠 Time flies. 🥺
Another pic I took last night as I drove home. Love how the landscape can change instantly on Navajo.
16 candidates for Navajo Nation President. July 21 is the primaries.
Nothing more magical than Navajo Nation in the summer. Hoping that our future tribal leadership stop allowing for corporations to exploit our land, water and resources.
