Today the SC Arts Commission delayed a grant funding decision for 2 arts organizations that produce art by and about LGBTQ people. At the same meeting, the board adopted a vague prohibition on granting arts funding to organizations that promote "ideology." Our response:

Our director Jace has an update from outside the hearing where lawmakers are deciding on a plan to redraw Congressional maps. Officials are not allowing people inside to an overflow room. "This is what democracy looks like out here. What they're doing inside is undermining democracy."
Adam Kincaid of the National Republican Redistricting Trust is addressing the subcommittee via Zoom to explain the map he drew: “What I went through and tried to accomplish was a map for South Carolina that would elect 7 Republicans.”
