🌟 NEW VIDEO - OUT NOW 🌟 A new episode of the LiDAR Hotseat. This week with special guest: Pete Kelly of History Time! We find evidence of Boudica's tibal tribe - the Iceni; a Dark Age fortress on the edge of the British Isles; and the lost gardens of a castle! #archaeology
🌟 NEW VIDEO - OUT at 5PM TODAY! (in 15 mins) 🌟 A new episode of the LiDAR Hotseat. This week with special guest Paul Whitewick! @paulwhitewick.bsky.social Featuring the most fascinating Roman mystery I've ever seen... and possibly solving it! As well as some peculiar prehistoric mounds. 🏺
There is a very large, circular enclosure just southeast of Darlington, County Durham. 🤔 I would love to hear what folk on here think it may be... #archaeology
I know a Langdale Axe when I see one! The Irish came to northwest England (and probably East Riding / Wales) a LOT in the Neolithic. Particularly around the same time stone circles started showing up in the landscape!
🌟 NEW VIDEO - OUT NOW! 🌟 A deep dive into Britain's most unusual Roman villa - Castle Dykes. Which holds the unique moniker "Defended Roman Villa". Check it out on my channel: www.youtube.com/@AdamMorganI... #archaeology
🌟 NEW VIDEO - Out NOW! 🌟 A deep dive into the lost stone circle of Grasmere... and the many hints that it did, indeed once exist. It's a thrilling ride - so come along!!! #archaeology
⭐ NEW VIDEO - Out Today at 5PM! ⭐ How I Discovered a LOST Roman Road... Using LiDAR If that title and thumbnail don't get to titillated, I don't know what will...
🌟 NEW VIDEO - OUT at 5PM TODAY 🌟 A deep-dive on Gamelands Stone Circle! And how it may help us explain Stonehenge, and more importantly - Shap Avenue 🤓 It's a good one... #archaeology #youtube
⭐ NEW VIDEO - OUT NOW!! ⭐ About a tower, found buried under the streets of York. Now known as the "Anglian Tower", or "The Most Interesting Building in Britain"... wow 😱 LINK: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzot... (I forgot to promote this - as it was my 30th birthday yesterday!) #archaeology #youtube
⭐️ NEW VIDEO - OUT NOW ⭐️ "Britain's Strangest Ancient Coin Discoveries..." An exploration of some of the weirdly exotic ancient coins found on our drizzly shores. #youtube #archaeology #history
The Vale of Mowbray is the most insane prehistoric site in the British Isles. In my opinion 🤔 An 11-mile chain of at least eight southeast / northwest aligned henges (among the largest in Britain), terminating at Britain's 2nd tallest standing stones... 😩 #archaeology #history #StandingStoneSunday
I was playing with 3D analysis techniques, and found something cool. 🌟 Who wants digital crop marks? Well, this method gives you an idea of how crop marks will appear in the landscape for any subtly surviving earthworks, using only GIS and 3DsMax.. 😎 #archaeology #GIS 🏺
The so-called “Snake Stone”. A large fallen boulder below The Wainstones, a rocky outcrop in the North York Moors. 🤔 It has a single large piece of Neolithic rock art on it: a long line terminating in a dot. (zoom in to find it!) #Archaeology #prehistory 🏺
⭐️ NEW Youtube VIDEO - OUT NOW! ⭐️ The Google Earth Moose Mystery. One of the strangest investigations in the history of modern archaeology. What was once believed to be the largest and oldest hill-figure in the world... Check it out on my channel: youtube.com/@AdamMorganI... #archaeology #youtube
A photo of myself at Commondale Stone Circle, in the North York Moors. What a place - completely off the beaten track! 💫 Taken on a 35mm film camera like the old school hipster I really am. #archaeology #Yorkshire
Have you played with performing local relief models on them? That was my first thought, and seems to work well for pulling out unseen etchings.
It's a method I stumbled upon by accident a few weeks ago. You can analyse photogrammetry / LiDAR scans in GIS software. So, you can perform hillshade, slope, etcetera on rock art! Very useful. It'd work wonders on Long Meg / Copt Howe. So they're next on my list.
Work in progress scanning and visualising Wainstones 6 rock art. It's already different to what I thought... 🤔 Most detailed one I've done yet - and it's barely visible in person. #archaeology #StandingStoneSunday
BIG ARCHAEOLOGY NEWS! 💫 A new section of Hadrian’s Wall has been discovered! The furthest west bit found yet - and it is glorious! 🤩 Reported by the great WC21. Link to his full video here: youtu.be/VfVvl3A_sO4?... #archaeology #history #Roman
Honestly, I think I'm onto something here. 🤔 The resolution of these is incredible. You'd be able to pick up the tiniest of details, just with simple photogrammetry and a few post-processes... Da Vinci has nothing on Adam Morgan Ibbotson. #archaeology #3D #StandingStoneSunday
Not sure if this is a done thing - but DID YOU KNOW, you can convert photogrammetry models to GIS analyses? 🫠 i.e., you can scan the surface of rock art - then analyse it like you would a landscape. So, slope, hillshade, local relief. Seems extremely useful... 🤔 #3D #archaeoogy #prehistory 🏺
Something new for #StandingStoneSunday - a little bit of artsy photogrammetry... This one of the Devil's Arrows' central stone, Yorkshire. 2nd tallest standing stone in the British Isles. 🤩 #archaeology #prehistory #Yorkshire
Highly recommend this YouTube documentary by Elephant Graveyard. One of the best ever made... Perfectly describes the Joe Rogan fanbase’s slide into anti-intellectual cultism. ☠️ Link: youtu.be/ewvRS3NwIlQ?...
A photo of a crop mark at the Devil's Arrows, Boroughbridge, Yorkshire. 🤔🤔 This may just be a 'superhenge' - a rare kind of Neolithic monument most famously found at Stonehenge: Durrington Walls. Except this one is bigger... #archaeology #LiDAR
Fun camera game - Guess which one of these photos was shot on a £4000 Canon camera, and which is from an Iphone... 📸🤳 💰 Guess down below, and be in for a chance to win my hand in marriage. 💰 #photography #camera #archaeology 🏺
The southern stone of the Devil's Arrows 👿 - the 2nd tallest standing stone in the British Isles. Nobody knows how old it is, but it probably dates to the Neolithic, so time time between 4000 and 2500 BC... #archaeology #prehistory #ancient #Yorkshire🏺
Aerial archaeology people - I want opinions... Natural paleochannels, or some kind of enclosure. Around 180m across, and sitting one field south of Cumbria's 3rd largest standing stone... 🤔🤔 #archaeology #LiDAR #prehistory #history 🏺
