These people behind me wouldn't leave a gap where the line passed the door. They blocked people for two minutes just so they could be three feet closer to the register, AND THEY ARE NO BETTER THAN THE BEASTS IN THE FIELDS.

Chelsea Lin Wallace’s text was great. I could feel her sensibility shining through every word. This was unquestionably her book. I decide to illustrate another author’s manuscript if I A) love it, and B) sense that I’m going to be able to make it my book, too

When I’m sent a new manuscript, and I have to decide if I’m going to be its illustrator or not, it’s never really a question of whether I think the text is “good.”
An editor loves it. A publisher is invested in it. Of course it’s good.

Anyway, needless to say a real email from an editor usually has a proofread signature, and a consistent company name, and an email address issued by said company, and a job title that doesn't seem like they're confusing publishing with baseball. Everyone be safe out there!

I expect my followers on Bluesky are smart, attractive people who would never fall for a book scam email, but I got a new variety today I thought I'd call out—a scammer actually claiming to be an editor at Chronicle (incidentally, one of my publishers). The link goes to Chronicle and everything.
