Adam Theo in Arlington, Virginia 👉 adamtheo.com 📃 I run the 'Arlington VA' feed here 🏘️ YIMBYs of NoVA yimbysofnova.org 🚴 County Transportation Commissioner 💼 Corporate Communications & Nonprofit Management at GMU.edu 🕺 I want to dance like Sam Rockwell
Normally after finishing a good book I'd go take a nice long walk with my thoughts, but umm...
3/ And no, I don't have any plans to continue reading the Dragonlance series past this point. From everything I've seen, the quality just really nosedives after these, w/ the authors just kind of losing their way in the world they created. I'm happy with these stories and the memories they created.
New sunglasses. Any over-under bets on how long before I lose them?
Spending my lazy Saturday morning finally putting together this Lego set of sunflowers I got as a bday present three months ago.
Should I run for Arlington County Board again, but with one of @arlingtondes.bsky.social's green food scrap composting bins on my head? #Vote4FoodDisposalBinface #ArlingtonVA
New haircut. I'm trying out a messier look with fades all around and flexible, rough texture on top instead of the clean, longer style I've had. Shout out to Miguel at Los Twins barbershop on Pershing Dr in Arlington.
I do really like the use of multiple launches along the Potomac in a line. It is beautiful from north #ArlingtonVA & could be even better done in future celebrations by planners with creativity & artistic talent. However, the constant overlapping barrage left no room for joy or memorable moments.
A cadre of men came together to plan this, and their answer is just to do fireworks, but times five, and faster, unleashed in a constant barrage with no creativity or time given to enjoy one piece before the next volley is tossed out without thought. This is their answer to all art.
I love fireworks and the Fourth of July, but this onslaught of thousands of fireworks over DC is the gaudiest display I've ever seen. Literally a product of little men who have no taste, believing the biggest and loudest of something makes it better.
With all these flyovers directly over the neighborhood in Arlington, she is wanting to take shelter under my legs. I'm telling her it's alright, just a pathetic man with a small dick trying to make himself feel important.
I took a drawing class over the past few weeks to fill out my summer schedule. It was a wonderful experience for me, having never drawn before. The class concluded with a portfolio review by the professor and my classmates of my work in contour, drawing, rendering, abstract, perspective, & portrait.
Asparagus are actually a bio-engineered mesh network of organic radio antennas used by the Deep State to secretly transmit their surveillance streams to field operatives spying on hardworking Real American™️ farmers. Anyway, I'm about to tune in to the relaunch of @realinfowars.bsky.social.
5/ Another fun word origin: "narc", as in to inform on someone on behalf of authorities, comes from 1859 British slang for someone who "breaks faith".
4/ Remember this when Certain Types of People™️ later try to defend MAGA by saying most went along with Trump because they were simply afraid.
3/ Another fun etymology lesson from this article on cancel culture: the Latin root of "cancel" being "cancelli", a latticework or a series of bars.
Taking a course on cancel culture this summer, and this germinating seed of the modern social phenomenon stood out, supposedly originating with @stephencolbert.bsky.social's Colbert Report. Very apt and fitting. The Long and Tortured History of Cancel Culture (NYT) www.nytimes.com/2020/12/03/t...
Damn, Google Gemini moving fast on recent discourse on Bluesky. I was using it for a bit of brainstorming for an upcoming final paper for a college course on cancel culture (is an interesting class) in the housing / #urbanism field, and look what the #2 suggestion is, @jamellebouie.net:
Came home to find the dog had somehow ninja'd her way up onto my coffee bar to grab a pack of her dental chews and a bag of giant marshmallows, which she apparently then all devoured and then threw up on my living room rug. She is now napping on the bed without a care in the world. Thanks.
I know I'd read Gibson's Neuromancer at least two decades ago, but for the life of me couldn't remember anything about it. So I spent the weekend reading it again for the first time. The writing, characters, and cyberpunk armosphere, along w/ the rainy weather today, have left me in a MOOD. #booksky
Seems the post office in Clarendon #ArlingtonVA has restricted its hours due to vandalism and ... defecation? I'm inclined to believe it considering what I've seen in the area at night, but part of me wonders if this is a directive to further weaponize the USPS against "blue" communities.
This story card in Google's newsfeed w/in its android app shows the #AIBias dangers of AI-generated summaries of news. Their AI tools presume vandals, not even applying "alleged" adjective, and doesn't present arguments vandalism claims are bogus, which are surely also indexed by its database.
I just fed the dog after a walk and when she was done scarfing it down she let out the loudest most middle-aged-man-with-a-beer-gut belch I've ever heard. She's a 20 pound sheltie.
My moment of joy today was going to the new Ebisu Japanese Life Store in Seven Corners on a whim and getting a Majin Buu soda.
Amazingly, yes. And likely still using his inherited wealth instead of being able to fundraise from actual voters. Over $110k at this point.
Checking out county board candidate James Devita's website, and I think some of these local Arlington organizations might find him cleverly implying they endorse him to be... problematic. Also his only actual endorsement is someone who is also running this year yet labeled a "former" candidate?
