In a box I hadn’t opened in decades I found my surviving kids books. Drawn to it by a recent conversation about the books we loved as kids vs how we draw as adults. It is so telling. My favorite scene from my favorite book is that of a happy family. I dreamed of a loving, caring father.

Books from my childhood. My uncle would give me books (from Venezuela) for my birthdays. These were the few that survived, and that I kept anyway after they got soaked in Hurricane Andrew

My favorite scene - The daughter gets to look at spiders. The family enjoys their vacation together while also being curious and enjoying nature. I would constantly come back to this double page spread. They all looked so happy and free to be themselves.

I saw the weirdest bug on the sidewalk, wanna see?

I don’t know what it is. I was hoping someone could identify this bug. It’s like 2.5” long, shiny, brown, not a cockroach, kinda like a wasp?

She finally doesn’t smell like roadkill and her new cut is adorable. Close cut around the body and a bit longer around the legs a “lamb cut” is what the groomer called it.
