My boys really liked the Toto the Ninja Cat series when they were around 8-10 although I don't much like promoting 'celebrity authors' and I didn't think the books were all that. #KidsBooksFriday
Time to take a leaf out of Lugh's book and think of those drones as a modern day Balor of the evil eye. Now... admittedly, the viper, toad and bear blood could be a problem but I reckon you have the brains of your enemy sorted.

As others have said below, October, October by Katya Balen or basically anything by Katya Balen. If your kid is really into Natural History, Dara Mc Anulty's books are just wonderful. I can't recommend them enough! I know you probably meant fiction but these really are beautiful.
These were so popular in our house both kids read/listened to the whole series and keep asking when the next one comes out...
There's a spectacular thunderstorm hanging over Inishowen this past hour or more. Never seen anything like it. Constant lightning every 30 seconds or so.
Well that was all I'd hoped for and more. Had my burrito, now it's off to watch Resident Alien with a bag of malteasers. ☺️
Sun is finally out so I'm heading for a swim in the sea with the kids. Dinner is already made - so I can actually enjoy myself and not rush back home. Slow-cooked pulled-pork burritos to look forward to later ☺️ And there's even a gift to future me with an offering for the freezer gods.
As for books that every child should read? That's a tough one 🤔 I'll think of loads more later but off the top of my head -

Was a long time finding 'The Search for Delicious' to read to my kids. I also used to love the McGurk Mysteries. The Turbulent Term of Tyke Tyler only revealed Tyke's gender at the end and I was so impressed I read it again instantly to see if I had missed any giveaway pronouns the first time.

I always keep an eye out for Louie Stowell, anything by Katya Balen, Sophie Anderson, or Hannah Gold. All are a huge hit in this house. I love reading Katya Balen's books aloud; the lyrical language just rolls off the tongue so easily - very soporific for the smallies.
