Made myself a nice lil set of summer sandwiches. From the farmer’s market at the Brickworks I got light rye sourdough bread, tomatoes, and microgreens. Then I added discount avocado from the grocery store, and crunchy strips of cooked marinated tofu from my freezer. Also, some mayo and salt and pepper.
It’s exceedingly rare that I’m able to put together a proper meal for myself, and by myself, these days. Thus! Behold the dinner I’ve prepped for myself for later: cold noodle bowl.
This is a cucumber appreciation post. Got to love the farmers at the market!
First off, went for a tasty lunch of aburasoba at Kajiken (a bit of a trek for a new taste, as was his tradition). Then went to Edwards Gardens (he would have gone to Kew). Lastly, got rolled ice cream as a special sweet treat (he loved ice cream). 3/4
I love the weather in Toronto today. I love the cool and the grey and the rain.
Thanks to @jackielaubooks.bsky.social for introducing me to Isabella’s mochi doughnuts. It’s been a no good very bad day, and this was a nice treat. 🍩
This is a very straightforward post on a gen Z thoughts on delayed gratification. Missing alt text in the original post so quote posting with it.
I had a visits from the tomato fairy! (Not to be confused with the cucumber fairy, co world different fairies.) My brothers have been growing a bunch of different crops on their balcony this summer, and were kind enough to include several types of tomatoes for me/us. 🍅 🤤
I had a visit from the cucumber fairy! Friends of mine always end up with a bumper crop, and are thankfully willing to share the wealth (I eat a lot of cucumbers, though this might stretch me a bit). These are very big cucumbers, probably weigh between 8-10 pounds for the 8 of them. 🥒 🤤
I haven’t had a beach day since the summer before I first got covid, so it’s been 3 years. There was a nice breeze, and no one else close by. I read a book. It was nice, though, like anything else I do, there are repercussions from my long-COVID. ☀️ 🌊 📖 😪
My understanding is this is still true, and the triology finishes before the Wilmington Years. 🤞🏻 I am very much looking forward to the rest of Hugh and Elara’s story!
I FINALLY got to the platinum level for catching dragon types! It’s only taken almost a decade. 😭😮💨🐉🥳
Something I haven’t been able to do in a long time, between long-COVID and stuff making long-COVID worse, was make a bunch of burritos for the freezer. For those days when things are especially bad but I need to eat and want something comforting. Check alt text for ingredients (if you like). 🌯💜
Happy birthday Rich, I wish you were here, but instead a cheers in your memory. I miss you! 💜🎂 🍻 🎂 🍻 💜
Well that fucking stung (it was ginger bug). ⅔ of a roll of paper towel. 3 times cleaning the floor on my hands and knees (plus cleaning the rest of my kitchen). 2 swollen and bruised knees. I barely managed a shower before I collapsed in bed. Did I get any school work done today? No I did not.
Today is my birthday, the first big day since my dear friend @gamingyourway.bsky.social passed away. To both celebrate and memorialize, I got a new tattoo. The dolphin is a sketch he drew for my bday a few years ago, and the icons around it are things that have meaning for our friendship.
Tonight was book club night (Queer Book Club, courtesy of Toronto Public Library, Parkdale branch), and we discussed Blackouts by Justin Torres. This was my favourite paragraph from the book, with the best line, I think. “…ain't no shame in being a bitch, but, Lord, be a bitch that barks.”
I did something that is impressive for me these days, having long-COVID and all that entails. I made soup from scratch on my own. Now days if I want to do something from scratch that’s energy intensive I’ve needed help. Go me! Made a veggie-heavy dairy-light cream of broccoli soup. 🥣🥦🧀
Brunch! Fried duck eggs with tons of cracked black pepper and smoked paprika, and potato waffles (from the British import store),in honour of my dear friend who passed away a few months ago. We had similar feelings on what to do and not do this time of year, and I’ll miss my buddy who understood.
Making the yearly penne a la vodka for the holidays. Can never have enough 🧄!
A Darkside (Black IPA) that he would have absolutely hated. It was very tasty, nonetheless.
Made my scratch mac&cheese yesterday. So much cheese pull. Medium cheddar, 2 yr cheddar, and mozzarella 🧀. Mustard powder, cayenne, smoked paprika in the sauce. This is before it went into the oven to crisp up more cheese on top. @thecheesegoddess.bsky.social @venezuelanbeaver.bsky.social
Went to the market at the Brick Works this morning. Delightfully misty and autumnal. 🍁
I am satisfied with this number. Also I had no idea what day I joined 😅.
