Arturo Villarroya, who works in public policy, told Business Insider he canceled his Claude Max subscription — a service that starts at $100 a month — on Wednesday after becoming "uncomfortable" with Anthropic's new watermarking plan. It has been applied globally to text from supported Claude models since August 2.

"I do use it for everything, mostly coding apps and tools," he said of Claude, adding that he also used it as a support tool for sourcing, research, and corrections at work.

Villarroya said he's worried a watermark could remain even when the underlying writing was original and Claude was used only to translate, check spelling, fix academic citations, or lightly summarize a passage.

He said its presence could create problems in academic and professional settings with strict rules on AI use. He added that he is switching to Cursor and Grok 4.6 for coding, and Grok Bot for work and personal organization.

🔴 So Anthropic just wrote a statement just to confirm all concerns about watermarking.

- It’s permanent and not removable.
- It will be applied to all new models from now on, and existing after December.
- They will apply it also to translations.
- They will provide a binary AI detection tool and API, that will determine whether AI was used or not, and not the extent or prior work from the user.
- It’s a code of conduct with the EU that they voluntarily signed.
- They decided to apply it globally instead of just inside the EU.

If you are using Claude for your university or a zero-AI policy job, stop using it right now. Either go back to manual writing or change to another provider without watermarking (like Grok).

I'm not swe-savvy enough to really follow the arguments on either side of MCP vs CLI. hadn't even thought about the API option. I default to skills+CLI because I think I know what those are... is there evidence on what works better with agents and why?

apenwarr: Alarmed at this trend of people finally realizing MCP is a pointless abstraction, then skipping right over publishing a regular boring API, and instead launching new CLIs for agents to use for some reason. It’s baffling.

The Stanford Digital Economy Lab’s “Canaries in the Coal Mine” study (Brynjolfsson, Chandar, and Chen), built on payroll records from ADP, found a 13% relative employment decline for workers aged 22 to 25 in the most AI-exposed occupations. The result survives controls for interest rates, the tech hiring cycle, remote work, and the pandemic. And the hardest-hit occupations include customer service reps, one of the jobs the essay specifically says LLMs can’t do.
