of a certain age; after much consternation, a writer. found in TRANSPlants, Pile Press, Lilac Peril, and PDX Makes zines i use this machine to share work and I try to not discourse in public.
This appears to be in response to a feature on Silvia Sydney, a drag queen who started performing in 1946. hdl.handle.net/2047/D20372380
if this was 2012 I'd be tempted to start a historic-slurs dot tumblr dot com Gay Community News (Boston) July 12th 1975 Volume 3 Number 5. (I think I know how to permalink the Northeastern archive now) hdl.handle.net/2047/D20372379
It's not quite as whiplash inducing as it once was, but it still surprises me when I'm up to my knuckles in old PDFs and find a full-throated defense of trans dykes from a cis women.
skipping a few gaba today to see if that messes me up — it would be nice to get down to otc meds.
Random Access Memory is to the 70s and 80s EDM as Confessions II is to Madonna's own career/life. (which is a pretty Madonna thing to do)
Me: maybe instead of leaning so hard on social media during recovery I will go dig up 90s listserv archives and see what I was posting thirty years ago.
At least two more weeks off my feet and I’m very close to going full @never.horse because the finches and hummingbirds have beef out there.
can confirm. odd viewing choice if you’re laid up with either a cisgender or transgender surgery.
Adding this the convalescence re-read pile. I remember this one as the book that really drew my attention to how little information there was out there about pre-stonewall life. Also literary/intellectual ambition swung for and (mostly) missed. Also smut/perverts. Also Chicago.
anyways, here's my friend Kim rocking out (one hundred billionths of a second at Turn, Turn, Turn)
Got a frankenstein battery pack cut out and the electronics and motor seem to work, although the later sounds more like a low growl than the high pitched whine of the 600 series cameras.
If I was a true sicko I would’ve figured out how to take this apart in a dark bag and tried to salvage the eighteen year old film. Next steps are disassembling this cartridge, replacing the battery with one from a modern 600 pack and then loading some 600 film into the cartridge.
Probably original 2008 film in there — post impossible project stuff only eight pictures per cartridge, not the ten this indicates
If I ever start talking about Dremeling parts of this camera someone please check on me
TL;DR; -- a craft system for reasoning about exposure using 1940s tech.
This is thirty year old beef so grain of salt and all that — but I remember how much my old photo professors used to cite "The Zone System" but how none of them really taught it. Other students would nod along like they understood and I'd feel like an idiot for not getting it.
homos have the tightest formations outside the marching band kids (short pipeline)
I wonder if these dorks wake up every day and think “thank God that one guy made the even uglier car”.
The middle-aged feeling of becoming invested in the regional Summer Festival parade you previously made fun of.
yourself, but as a cartoon. (prefers high ground, keeps her distance, spends too much time aiming)
I also like to imagine some tech writer 30 years ago saying “fuck, I guess we’re not finishing that”
I really like to imagine some tech writer 30 years ago just absolutely cooking.
The double tap of being reminded that Spectra cameras were a thing and then learning that the new Spectra film was discontinued back in 2019.
