I’d like to say that I do but I’ve only caught it once before on a previous trip to France. I’ve been trying to get a photo of the Latin that looks a bit more like @rlewington2.bsky.social ‘s lovely art work in the book, but this is the best I’ve managed so far. Not quite the same.

Picked up a passenger on my cycle ride into Sankt Martin bei Lofer this morning. I think it’s Erebia aethiops but I’m not sure? Any experts out there that can confirm the species? #butterfly #butterflies #austrianlepidoptera #austriabutterfly #austriabutterflies

The colours of these look a little better in daylight rather than artificial light.

Just spotted another lurker. Also NFY. Common Lutestring.

Might be doable as there’s lots of National Trust properties nearby to visit in the daytime 😂😂😂

That Clouded Buff came out of the blue as not on my radar, but I knew instantly what it was. Easily identified. A little worn so now I want another pristine one. Greedy eh! Grassy meadows are full of butterflies here too. 😳 Less herbicides/pesticide use and better grass management for Winter fodder?

Now with views like this from tonight’s trap site I’m expecting something decent. Don’t let me down Germany. #TeamMoth Oberammergau. Bavaria.

Of course it’s quite possible that the Double Square-spot is just another Triple-spotted Clay like his friend?

Correction The Catoptria is likely to be permutatellus or osthelderi which cannot be separated except by dissection. Striking that off my record. In other news, just found a lurker Callimorpha dominula. Scarlet Tiger.

A fairly poor photo of a Wood White. Now as it was found in a meadow in Southern Germany I’m going to propose that it’s likely to be Cryptic Wood White. Leptidea juvernica rather than Leptidea sinapsis. Any thoughts ? #butterfly #butterflies
