Beautiful miss Winter has been enjoying our new property. She had to have her leg amputated due to cancer three days after we closed so for the first couple of weeks she couldn’t fully enjoy the new place. Now she’s making up for lost time! #rescuedog

Fifteen little fluff butts have hatched so far. Two are still drying out in the incubator with another one working on hatching out. They’ll stay in there until tomorrow to keep the one hatching company and encourage any late hatchers.

I finally bought a chicken brooder for in the house and all I can say is I wish I’d done it years ago. I keep chicks in a bin in the house the first couple of weeks since our garage is too cold unless I use a heat lamp which is a fire risk and astronomically expensive with electricity prices.

Over the weekend my husband and son went and picked up about 50 bales of straw for my garden. I am so excited for this! I am going to use it to expand current garden beds and create a few new beds I’ve been wanting to do.
I went out today to the property to harvest some willow cuttings for rooting them. I am starting a willow tunnel this year to connect the kids play area to the garden. I plan on creating a living fence to give visual separation between the two spaces too.

This year I’ve cut back and am taking things slower because I am burned out on every front. Next weekend I’m starting the first seeds of the 2026 gardening season and I am really looking forward it.
French toast was requested for breakfast since my flock is back to laying after their well deserved winter break. This afternoon to help get through a hard time of homeschool work I made us some very sugary coffee hut style drinks. A fancy chocolate milk and a peanut butter chocolate ice rage.

One of my favorite winter pastimes is coloring while listening to an audiobook. It helps me relax and disassociate from reality. Right now I’m listening to Murderland by Carol Fraser. I was a little skeptical but since it focuses on WA state mostly that had me intrigued.
We’ve gotten over 2ft of snow since the weekend. Today was the worst with the winds and snow blowing around. Spent a couple hours snow shoveling this evening. All I wanted to do was stay inside in front of the wood stove. #alaska #snowstorm

Got my honeybees ordered last night. I decided to do just one colony this year and I’m moving it into the garden. We may have some big changes this year so between that and trying to cut back on obligations and time commitments I decided just one makes sense.
