The increased # of penalties does correlate with a lower % of PKs being scored Maybe shooters miss more in high-pressure shootouts? More PKs taken might mean more attention paid to stopping them, scouting shooters, etc But i think this is mostly spurious
There are, generally, more PKs taken in WCs now than in the past The WC has more games now, and the shootout tiebreaker was intro'd in 1978 w/ the first one taking place in 1982. There've been 2-4 shootouts in most WCs since then I thought the end of Golden Goal OT might add to it, but not really
