omg we have a friend who is involved with PSL in California and I literally thought to myself that I couldn’t join a party like PSL because I actually want to win elections And I though that might be a bit unfair so I looked up if PSL had actually won an election and y’all

For this installation, Leonard sewed together empty fruit skins; the organic process of change and decay is allowed to unfold in public view. This work was made in the mid-1990s, during the AIDS crisis, before any effective treatments for HIV had been developed.
Disproportionately affecting the gay community, the disease was heavily stigmatized. It was years into the epidemic before the U.S. government began to support research, treatment, and education about transmission.

By 1997, more than sixty thousand New Yorkers had died of HIV/AIDS.

The work's title is taken from the song "Strange Fruit," first recorded by Billie Holiday in 1939, whose lyrics describe the lynching of African Americans.

Using imagery often associated with the tradition of vanitas painting, and foregrounding the changing state of the work over time, Strange Fruit offers us a contemporary variant on the still life.

Dreher has no political experience, and said he's making this throwback concept of accountability a theme of his campaign for state Legislature. He's filed to run against incumbent Rep. Gerry Pollet, D-Seattle.

Dreher says the feds let too many polluters and tech companies off the hook for societal harm they cause. While local governments such as Seattle need to acknowledge that
"what does deter violent and property crime is increasing the likelihood an offender gets caught, and that's where we have work to do."

Pedersen is taking nothing for granted. He's been out doorbelling for the first time in years. He's also piling up campaign cash, raising about $336,000 to Sabio-Howell's $82,000 as of Friday, according to Public Disclosure Commission filings.

In a more typical election year, as a caucus leader running in a safe Democratic district, Pedersen would ship most of his campaign dollars as "surplus" to help Democrats in swing districts. He doesn't have that luxury this time.

Pedersen says he had a "wake-up moment" when the Senate Democrats' campaign director, Katy Ozog, told him the caucus isn't expecting any of that help this year.

"You need to raise a half a million dollars and spend it all on your own campaign," he said, recounting her advice.

Time to finally do some of the yardwork I’ve been avoiding for the past few weeks! Here’s one of the Elderflower/Elderberries we planted last spring (grown from a rooted cutting from King Conservation District). 8 feet is an amazing amount of growth for a second year cutting!!!!!

Oceanspray are one of my all time favorite plants! They are so, so beautiful when in bloom (and the flowers dry out and still provide interest after they’re done blooming too!). You’ll see them in forests and wild places, and frequently along highways and in conservation areas.

Rest In Power David Hockney. I got to see an exhibition of his work in early 2018 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I really loved his early gay work, of course the iconic pools, and the vibrancy and life and brightness of his later works. Here are some bad photos from my camera roll:

The bathrooms are free, but Throne requires people to text a number or use an app to enter so if someone breaks the rules — by smoking inside, for example - they may not be allowed back.

Throne is aware not everyone has a phone, so the company has an option to enter with tap cards. Transportation department officials said Throne is partnering with the Downtown Seattle Association ambassadors and the city's mental health responders to help those people access the restrooms.

Throne co-founder Jessica Heinzelman said the company's model tries to balance access with "accountability."

ugh today google image reverse search told me a seedling (shown below) was probably KNOTWEED so I pulled it but I think it was actually a Big Leaf Maple that’s what i get for trusting the AI summary for even something insignificant
