Seeing these two posts back to back in my feed capturing two domains of automation resilience: 1. Where the value of an activity comprises not only the output but also a sense of human connection, 2. Where part of the value lies in the output showcasing human artistry/ craftsmanship

M.J. Crockett posts a link to an article by Lily Hu called "Un-Doing Philosophy" and praises it. Joshua Grochow quote posts M.J. Crockett with a screenshot from Lily Hu's article and his own comment. The quote reads: "But when I think about the concrete experience of reading, writing, and doing philosophy, I am reminded of what it is concretely to strive to live up to one another. I think of the distinct feeling of being in the thrall of another person’s mind and the rush of gratitude that they had these thoughts and wrote these words, for me now to be able to take them in. These feelings of awe and appreciation are inextricably linked to the human recognition of what it must have taken for someone to write this: what they must have done, the time they must have spent, the strain and struggle, the activities foregone, the desires deferred, the times they nearly quit, the times they did quit and came back and started again. How astonishing we really are; and how exhilarating it is to be able to recognize each other in this way". Grochow's comment reads "I think this same thing applies to math and (T)CS - as with much of the rest of the essay. (Literally change the one word "philosophy" to "mathematics")".

Antirez posts: "There is another idea that continuously return in my head recently: we should not stop writing code by hand. But this code will be like poetry. Small programs that are outstanding either because of style or new ideas introduced. Code you may print and frame on your wall.". The Fresh Prince of Donair quote posts antirez with the comment: "There will always be a place (and should be!) for lovingly handcrafted code. But tech companies have *always* been slop factories that have to rely on speed and correctness (big tension there!) over beauty and communication.

AI augments that, but doesn't destroy the real value of handwriting code."
