Greene County signed a 287(g) agreement in May 2025. As part of the agreement, the sheriff’s office received $137,500, which it used to purchase a vehicle and to train five officers for the ICE Task Force. As of March 2026, 11 of its 34 officers — including Sheriff Smith — had been certified to join said Task Force, said Smith. Smith told Charlottesville Tomorrow in February that soon the entire department will be certified and trained.

not only are the green county cops collaborating with ICE, they're also harassing an attorney for attempting to offer legal representation:

The Greene County officer gave Young three citations: one for an improper use of his horn, one for failing to yield to an emergency vehicle and one for using a handheld device while driving. Young told Charlottesville Tomorrow that he did yield to the officers who pulled him over, and would contest that citation, as well as the others. He said that he had a first amendment right to honk his horn and record the officers with his phone.

okay also the AG survey notes a decline in average author income. but print book sales are pretty similar to what they were in 2009. rather than wondering where those profits are going, if it's not to authors, they're choosing to blame........public libraries. curious!

The shift from purchases to low or non-royalty generating channels has profound implications for the writing profession. According to the Authors Guild’s last income survey in 2023, the median income of a full-time author from their books is $10,000 a year, and $20,000 from all writing-related work combined. This is down roughly 42 percent since 2009 when the first consumer Kindles entered the marketplace.

But in many places, that message seems to have gotten lost.
Michelle Parsons, who teaches a training course required for
school officers in Texas, said that officers frequently described
being pulled into minor disciplinary matters. At a recent training
attended by a reporter, officers were told to stay out of incidents
that would not otherwise prompt a 911 call. Several scoffed and said
their principals would be unhappy.
