Here's the rest of it. What did she think would happen taking a pro-IP theft stance and then saying Canada's been poisoning Indigenous people for years and no one cares? Um, those of us who are Indigenous definitely care and have been fighting it from the beginning. Good riddance.

You can choose to be a gatekeeper, or you can choose to have some humanity for your fellow human beings who are just trying to figure things out.

I want to highlight this part of her rant because it's incredibly dismissive of Indigenous communities' centuries-long fight against environmental racism. While nothing in her article (if I can call it that) demonstrates mature, acceptable behavior, this part is the most egregious.

Yes, we know AI is using up resources. So does driving a car or a plane. So does building a new home. So do a lot of things. Humans have always used up Earth’s resources and usually not nicely. There are reservations and other Indigenous communities in Canada that have never had clean water and have been ravaged by pipeline construction. But somehow that’s been okay for the past fifty years or a hundred years, and very few people scream about that. But suddenly, AI is the enemy, not everything else we’ve been doing all along.

Suddenly YOUR water might not be so clean, so now it’s a Big Deal.

Dear White editors,
When responding to submissions from Indigenous authors, DO NOT
- suggest their culture is primitive or express surprise their culture still exists
- whitesplain their culture to them and get it all wrong
- whitesplain to them laws meant to protect their community when those laws exist in name only, are never enforced, and are routinely broken
- ask that they whitewash their story to remove a conflict you believe is unrealistic when it is actually something Indigenous communities experience all the time.
All of these things are racist, whether you intend for them to be or not. Unintentional racism is still racism and is, perhaps, more dangerous than conscious racism. You are publishers who claim to want BIPOC stories and BIPOC voices, yet this is how you respond when you receive them. It's clear what you really want are stories that fit your preconceived notions of what our communities and cultures are like. You don't want our real experiences or perspectives. Please stop acting like you are champions of diversity and a safe space for BIPOC people while trying to smother our voices.

I want to point out how crazy Louisiana elections are right now. The gov cancelled the House primary with 48 hours notice, but Senate, state amendments, and local elections are still on. Yet when I try to see a sample ballot on the LA Sec. of State's website, this is what I get. #2026elections #vote

Dan had always thought living in the past was part of the appeal of being a scout. He wouldn’t have to deal with any of the problems in the present. But spending four months like this, staring at crop fields and maltreated serfs, could make him long for the constant storms and machine-generated oxygen of 2086. He was ready to pack it up and call it a day. Nothing was happening, and if it weren’t for the frigid rain making his whole body shiver, he’d have fallen asleep out of boredom hours ago. He’d resorted to whittling sticks with the pocketknife he kept in his cargo pants. Maya, however, was still engrossed in the field. Rain ran off her, outlining her invisible form. She wore those bulky BrightVision goggles again.

Kostel svatého Václava (Church of St. Vaclav, a.k.a. St. Wenceslas) A church with two clock towers? I never did get that. It was built in the 1800s, so nowhere near as old as many other buildings in the city. But it looked nice against the sky, so I snapped a photo.

My apartment/dorm was one street over from the Vltava River. This photo shows a bridge leading to an island in the river. It also features Malostranská vodárna (Malá Strana Water Tower).

I did not live in the suburbs of Smíchov, but I did go for walks in them. The hills in the area are huge. (It took me hours to reach the top of one.) This beautiful neighborhood is at the top of that hill. A car is parked along a street lined with verdant trees.
