So I'm reading "A Philosophy of Software Design". When a team bans documentation for "self-documenting code", you often end up with shallow wrappers like this. This passes cognitive load to the reader, and conflates code with intent. Good documentation isn't a code-smell when it's a deep module 😉
Digging into K2 compiler updates & seeing so much regurgitated info without attribution. 😬 Huge thanks to @ktacademy.bsky.social for citing original work, including mine! It means the world to me to see research properly credited. Ya'll are legit 💯 kt.academy/article/ak-c...
Just published a new web page just for interview prep. Look how cute it looks 😍 codingkinetics.com/get-intervie...
Were you able to guess option B? If you did, can you explain why, and how to fix it?
Engineers, this coroutines puzzle is for you! Take a look at the code. The request failed, and requestScope.cancel() was explicitly called in onFailure. Why is the OCR engine still running in the background? You have 24 hours 😉 Check again in a day for the answer and part 2 of this challenge.
Chicago Kotlin User Group finally has its first event of the year! Join us at PACH for a beginner-friendly Kotlin Multiplatform & BLE workshop guided by Kartik Prakash! Bring a laptop, pair up, & build with IoT. When: July 30th Time: 5:30pm-8:00pm www.eventbrite.com/e/ckug-x-ctl...
AI Monitoring Forensics project is ready to run on my Raspberry Pi now. Wish me luck, and let's hope it doesn't fry on the first run. I didn't have a monitor to connect to it, and I'm on a new router so I plugged it right into my monitor, used nmap to find the new IP address and ssh'd in 😎
idk it's starting to look like something to talk about
That's better. No wait, hold on this might be hard to read
Just realized something. btop is saying that ollama is running 49% CPU but looking at how all the cores are actually running at capacity, it's clearly taking up multiple cores. I will need to do a little bit of math here to calculate global process load.
Even a tiny local model like llama 3.2B consumes the majority of my 2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
I've updated my website to include this summer's in-person events on codingkinetics.com. Take a look and check out the new content!
@droidcon.bsky.social you're a real one for this ✊ If you've been laid off or you're a student in the US, Droidcon USA has made the conference extremely accessible. Networking is *the* way to survive tech, so take the leap and come make some friends in Orlando! usa.droidcon.com
Coding Kinetics is going global 🔥 Which event are you most excited for? July 15 • Chicago, IL | Harold Washington Library - HTML Workshop July 16 - 17 |Droidcon Orlando, FL - Applying Mobile Forensics to AI Perf September 18 • Leuven, Belgium | KTConf Kotlin Coroutines Forensics Masterclass
2 months ago, a tech news site bought my data so they could call my personal number + ask about a previous employer. Keep an eye out for tomorrow's post on my experience with DeleteMe. Until then, access the full cybersecurity collection: www.patreon.com/collection/1...
Cooking up the next article on Medium on stress testing concurrency with unit testing. Calling this one the "Cattle-Herding Pattern" to describe the mechanism behind it. Also here's a photo of my abuelita's cows for the cute cow tax
My face when one of the first files I open in Ollama's LLM contains thread leaks
Learned the hard way. Don't leave in an SSD overnight in a pi after you've finished partitioning the drive 💀
Nuked the flash drive immediately 😔 Waited a week for ebay to ship a $32 128GB SDD, maybe this one won't get a heart attack
I'm excited to try it out. Even for those not looking for a job, these are great exercises to make you a better engineer.

The HTML workshop at the Harold Washington Library was a success! It was an absolute joy to see people's faces light up when they realized they had published a website in 2 hours. Remember what your first coding project was like? mistylucky-r.github.io
High five to all the folks making sure their third-party plugins aren't collecting crazy data from people 🙏
Cowboy patrons voted 🤠 here is a deep dive on coroutine cancellation and exception mechanisms available for all on Medium: medium.com/coding-kinet...
Whew. Almost done with reviews for @droidcon.bsky.social Academy.
One of the hardest problems to solve with concurrency is catching nondeterministic bugs. I've created a must-read deep dive for my paying patrons that provides a robust pattern on "Unit Testing Concurrency + Caching". Support my work and get instant access here: www.patreon.com/amandahinchm...
I know it's not cool to wear a mask, but breathing in wildfire every summer is bound to lead to long-term health issues 😬
This week on Patreon: Cowboy votes have been casted! My next Medium article on coroutine cancellations and exceptions. It's always the one I don't want to do that gets chosen 😂
