In 2017, I decided to make blue dragonscale cosplay armor to wear to Gen Con. Each scale was hand cut, heat shaped, painted, and sewn onto the armor. I sometimes overdo things when I try something new. I gave extra dragon scales away to kids at the con. It still hangs in my office. #gencon

Time for another D&D 5e homebrew inspired by random words somebody gave me at a gaming convention. This one is a painful spear that might hurt more coming out than going in. #dnd #ttrpg #convention

Shrike
Weapon (spear), rare (requires attunement)
This spear has a handle whittled from sun-bleached wood and a barbed head carved from whale bone. On each side of the spearhead is the image of a shrike. It once belonged to Bloody Sara, an infamous pirate.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it.

When you hit a creature with the spear, you can choose to impale the target, leaving the barbed spear in the target.

At the start of each of the impaled target's turns, the target bleeds heavily, takes 1d6 piercing damage, and its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of its next turn.

A creature can use its action to remove the spear from the target, which deals 2d6 piercing damage to the target.

If you are within 60 feet of the spear, you can use a bonus action to call the spear, which flies to your empty hand. If a creature is impaled by the spear when it is called, that creature takes 1d6 piercing damage.

I'm writing my 2nd big D&D supplement. One of the chapters has points of interest DMs/GMs can drop into their games. Sometimes game content starts with pairs of words from a random word generator, which I turn into basic ideas, and I'll later make those into finished written materials. No AI here.

Stonecracker
Weapon (heavy war pick), rare

This weapon has an adamantine head and a handle carved from dragon bone. It is always cool to the touch, and the weapon never shows signs of wear or corrosion.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it. The pick deals an additional 1d10 piercing damage to creatures, objects, and structures made primarily of stone.

As an action, you can use the pick to dig out a 5-foot high, 5-foot wide, 1-foot deep section of unworked stone. The stone that was in that space immediately shatters into gravel.

It is unaffected by magic or effects that alter its temperature or cause rusting or other corrosion.

Albert's Hat
Treasure
This hat, made from green silk over an inner layer of leather, holds a shape that is popular with many wizards: a conical upper portion with a slight bend to it, surrounded by a wide brim. The underside of the brim has various runes stitched into it with silvery thread that, when read even with the help of magic, don't actually have any known meaning. The inside of the hat has two overlapping pieces of dark black fabric that conceal the space closer to the point of the hat.
This hat was once owned by Albert the Magician, a well-known entertainer who performed simple magic tricks for children on street corners. The elderly man's performances always ended with candy appearing from his supposedly empty hat, which he gave to his audience.
Some of the children who had been entertained by the magician over the years would go on to become apprentices to local wizards.
There were rumors that Albert was actually a powerful wizard himself, as he certainly looked the part. Nobody knew where the magician went or what he did when he wasn't entertaining children in the street.
One day, nearly 30 years ago, the town was attacked by a dragon. This hat was left behind when Albert ran toward the commotion. The magician was never seen again.

14 years ago, I remade every single weapon model and matching inventory icon for Neverwinter Nights (then a 12-year old game). I called it Project Reforged. I had taught myself 3d modeling so I could make new stuff that didn't exist in NWN. There may be some people still using them. #dnd #nwn

Warm Returns
Weapon (club), rare
This is a 3-foot long piece of wood that looks and smells like it was pulled from an extinguished campfire. One half of the wood is a little narrower than the rest of it, though there is a wider knob at that end. A strip of leather has been wrapped around the narrowest 1/3 of the wood to form a grip.

This is a magical weapon that gives you a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls you make with it. On a hit, the club deals an additional 1d4 fire damage.

As a reaction when you are attacked with a thrown or ranged weapon, you can make an attack roll with the club with advantage. If your attack roll is higher than the attacker's, the thrown weapon or ammunition is ignited and reflected back at the attacker. If your attack roll hits the attacker's AC, the attacker takes the damage from the weapon or ammunition, plus 2d4 fire damage.

If you place this club in a burning campfire and take a long rest within 10 feet of that fire, you experience pleasant dreams during the rest and wake with 1d4 temporary hit points. The club is unaffected by fire.

The Quiltening
story starter

Each year, on the day of the autumnal equinox, the small farming village of Battingbrook has a traditional day of celebration of the passage of another year and the approach of winter, which they call Renewal Day. The children of the village call it Fluff Day.

For months out of the year, children of the village are tasked with gathering and keeping soft feathers, soft fur, cattail fluff, and dry milkweed seed pods. The evening before Renewal Day, all of the gathered materials are brought to the great hall, a large, indoor gathering place in the center of Battingbrook.

On Renewal Day, the people gather together to remove the stuffing and batting from all of the pillows and quilts they possess, then refill those objects with the fresh supply of fluffy, insulating materials gathered by the children. While this is happening, children play games, musicians perform, and the community shares meals together as they prepare for the coming winter.

Today is Renewal Day, but there is a disastrous problem. The entire collection of fluffy materials disappeared during the night.

Ghost-Drawn Sled
Wondrous item, rare

This sled is made to be pulled over snow by a team of specially trained dogs. The sled is large enough to hold 1 Medium passenger and 1 Medium driver. It weighs 50 pounds.

As an action, you can cause the sled to call forth 10 ghost sled dogs, which appear already harnessed to the sled.

The ghostly dogs can pull up to 1,500 pounds, can travel for up to 12 hours without tiring, and are unaffected by cold temperatures. The team of dogs is considered one undead creature with 10 hit points and an AC of 10. The only action the dogs can take is to pull the sled.

You can use the sled's magic again after the next sunrise.

Supernatural Disguise Kit
Wondrous item, uncommon

This appears to be a typical disguise kit, stocked with the usual assortment of cosmetics, hair dye, and small props that you can use to alter your appearance. Each object within the kit displays a faint green iridescence in bright light.

When you use this kit to apply a disguise, which takes 1 minute, you can expend 1 charge from the kit to cast disguise self on yourself or on another humanoid. You determine the target's appearance. The spell's effects last for 8 hours or until the person disguised uses an action to end the spell.

The Investigation skill DC to discern that a creature is disguised by this kit is 15. If you use the kit to magically disguise a creature as an undead humanoid, a lycanthrope, a hag, or a fey creature, the Investigation DC is 19.

The kit has 7 charges. It regains 1 expended charge each day, 1 hour before sunset.
