Literally picked up this edition of "A For Andromeda" on the weekend at a book sale. Intrigued by the note at the beginning that it's an adaptation of a 1961 TV series.

Three vintage paperbacks in a row. The first is Philip K Dick's "Valis". ("The long-awaited masterwork, now published for the first time.")

The second is a Penguin paperback entitled "Connoisseur's Science Fiction" featuring an illustration of an alien warrior riding a phallic horse-lizard-thing.

The third is the aforementioned Corgi edition of Fred Hoyle and John Elliot's "A for Andromeda".

Ahem. (Full disclosure, I hate this movie, but the 3D is the best I've ever seen.)

Well, yes.

A hardback book from The Ladybird Key Words Reading Scheme. On the cover are two young boys playing in a tropical paradise, one pulling his friend from the water. The title is “Books are Exciting”
Which is obviously what is happening on the cover.

Another title in The Ladybird Key Words Reading Scheme Reading Scheme. The cover depicts, two clowns, one pouring a jug of water down the pants of another. The title is “Learning is Fun” which is not the conclusion I came to when given an enema by a clown.

Yet, another title in The Ladybird Key Words Reading Scheme. This cover depicts a young man being rescued from falling through the ice. The title is “Enjoying Reading”. Personally, I would not call the experience of falling through ice into freezing water while reading “enjoyable” but what the hell would I know apparently.

Our final instalment of The Ladybird Key Words Reading System series. This cover depicts a crowd watching a plane taking off. The title is “Jump from the Sky” which sounds more like a threat than an invitation, especially after a clown enema and near-death ice experience. The lesson here is that reading is distressing, may kill you and you should never do it.

First watch for 2026: The Secret Agent An unpredictable political thriller shot through with B-movies and folklore. For me, it dragged a little, but think it'll grow on me. Wagner Moura's talent really hits you when he convincingly plays his own son.

First watch for 2026: Dust Bunny Tribute to those trippy Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet fantasies of the 90s. Lots of visual panache and a great cast, but comes to a thudding halt whenever anyone opens their mouth. Would have been better as a silent.
