One of the key improvements is new sections of separated bike lane at sidewalk level. A lot of thought has gone into selecting buffers, especially, where we have a lot of pedestrian traffic. Photos from this morning on my walk from bus stop to the office.

2️⃣ Traffic calming via curb changes These images show some changes to where the curb is placed on a street. The way that the curbs will be laid will cause drivers to have to slow down ahead of a right to left shift or when making a left turn off the street.

An intersection under construction. The foundation under the street and part of the sidewalk is exposed to the open air. Some temporary paths are available in asphalt. Construction equipment is all around and comes, barrels and barricades define construction work areas.

The entrance to the side street has been reconfigured to require a sharper turn. This is caused by placing curbs so that a smaller radius, or sharper angle, remains for the vehicular part of the street.

The main street has been reconfigured to require drivers shift slightly from right to left before approaching a set of main intersections. This is caused by placing curbs in a way that curves the part of the street for vehicles toward the left. The pedestrian and bicyclist space is enlarged as the roadway curves.

I'm really excited about two things that are now being built out on River Street. 1️⃣ "Floating" bus stops A floating bus stop design means that people biking and driving buses have separate spaces at bus stops. 🚲🚌

And more traffic signal work near the main intersection of Central Square.

Street under construction. Curbs have not been installed yet and some traffic islands are no more than temporary Jersey barriers. New traffic signal is built but not yet turned on.

And the midst of the detours and work zones from the turn from April into May this year.

Wish I could be joining you all this year - Last year in DC was one of my personal major highlights. It was amazing to celebrate all that DC stands for and I'm excited to see that you all will continue with the celebration in Minneapolis this year.
