This looks more like some large tāng yuán than mochi. I don't know any Chinese grandma who knows what a mochi is. If that's the case, this OP should not eat it raw because the flour used in those is raw. Unlike mochi, one should fully cook it, or they may get salmonella. Pass the word just in case
My recent hyperfixation is autonomic nervous system. And I found this epic book that covers a wide range of topics on ANS. I wish all domains have a book like this
I found an amazing book! The chapter of the embodied self written by Breanne Kearney & Dr. Ruth Lanius got me too excited that I cannot sleep...I wish I could do this kind of research so bad.
My CR box after only 1 day under the wildfire smoke weather (last Friday) -- with A/C off and windows shut closely.
Luna’s newly shed whisker has 3 roots and also multiple tiny strings made up to one! I’ve only seen human hair branching out at the end, but never the roots! What’s the explanation here? Curious
General Han Xin, however, proudly asked for the big marshal role when he was still a nobody, for he believed that his military talent was irreplaceable. Chinese audiences tend to place blames on his ex-boss for being too proud to acknowledge talents for their true potential. (4/5)
The interesting difference is how people's opinions about their anger and leaving the original team. Ned is commonly seen by audiences and the writer as being arrogant and ungrateful for being offered a minor management role, even though he is working wonder as a team manager in his new team. (3/5)
Recently I re-watched 2 TV shows, one American, the other Chinese / Hongkonese, and noticed the differences between how people see geniuses in these two cultures. Comparing Ned in Ted Lasso and General Han Xin in The Conqueror's Story (real historical figure), (1/5)
A terrible thing happened to me recently: I accidentally bought a mechanical keyboard...
I got selected for the APA SUPER Fellowship! I can't express enough how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity, especially considering that I was struggling so much with my back injury last semester.
When you study cognitive psychology with an engineering background, things get so much easier. A linguistic model about brain oscillations decoding speech? Ah, Fourier transformation.
Writing about my special interests (Marsha Linehan and complex PTSD) with a warm purring kitty sleeping in my arms. Life is good ❤️🐈⬛❤️
I presented my first poster in the Neuroscience Research Day 2026! While I was preparing it, I discovered a new type of poster design by @mikemorrison.bsky.social. I didn't like it at first, but then was intrigued on its ability to generate more interaction. Results? I was talking the whole hour!
These have also create a new hobby / research specialty for traditional Chinese liberati called 养生 (yǎng shēng), which can be translated literally as "nurturing and preserving". It is a holistic way of promoting health, including also physical exercise (e.g. the Five Animal Poses), healthy lifestyle
Since seasons, hours and our body are all using this tīan gān dì zhī system, we can correspond them together and summarize a holistic health care plan. For example, for the zǐ (rat) time, it's correspondent to the gallbladder, and the next is the liver, so at 11pm one should sleep to nurture them.
so starting from the rat as the first two hours of a day, from around 11 pm to 1 am). They are also used in fēng shuǐ and other fortune telling traditions, as well as traditional Chinese medicines, when combining with the 5 Elements (五行, wǔ xíng) — metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. (2026 is fire)
The horse represents "午 (wǔ)", And this cycle of tiān gān is the 3rd (丙, bǐng). Therefore, 2026 is actually recorded as the year "3-Horse" (丙午, bǐng wǔ) in Chinese. This system is used in many places, such as time system of the day: every 2 hours is one dì zhī,
Happy Chinese New Year! 2026 is the year of horse. 🐎 The 12 Chinese zodiac signs are just a simple visual representation for part of the large Chinese calendar system. The 12 animals represents 12 地支 (dì zhī), combined with 10 天干 (tiān gān, numbers), years are indexed as a sexagenary cycle system.
The more I use R, the more marvelled I am at its ability. I can't go back to Python anymore. I've tasted the good life...Nooooooo...
Been reading Irvin Yalom's Existential Psychotherapy lately. Some initial thought: 1. Damn good writing 2. Textbooks on older theories and practices are vastly oversimplified and stripped off their rich contexts 3. Americans are lack of philosophical basis for this therapy, but this may be changing
I might found the new "blue-black or white-gold dress" problem: What's the color of this belt?
Happy Winter Solstice! Winter Solstice is one of the most important festivals in China. In the northern China, we eat dumplings to celebrate this day, because they have a shape that looks like ears, and this is said to prevent the cold weather to freeze our ears off!
Hear me out: Dollarama’s new Christmas cat wand toy! It’s so cheap, but its design hits all the right spot: jingly, shiny, FEATHER, long elastic thread, size long enough to be a kicker for those who love to kill…It instantly became Luna’s new favorite! And the feathers survived her murder bites!
I did an oral presentation today at St-Joseph's Hospital Joint Mental Health Research and Innovation Day about the pain and visual working memory study on which I have been working with @phivph.com. This was my first time presenting in a conference! Abstract can be found: heyzine.com/flip-book/ab...
Since August, I’ve been having serious disc herniation that put me in bed for the past two months. During this time, I learned about two new promising treatmnets for chronic pain, one is called emotional awareness and expression therapy (EAET) and the other is called pain reprocessing therapy (PRT).
I’m blown away by this book! Too bad that I need to return it to the library soon. Come on my secret Santa…$140 you can do it….😂😂
