The Oshii film was clearly one of the best sci fi animated films ever, but the shadow of Oshii hung over GITS and after Stand Alone Complex it would never feel fresh or exciting again. By going back to the source material GITS has new life. Frankly I'm glad there are "only" 10 eps. Refreshing.
