I asked AI to generate a photo of a women's protest (for research purposes) Women is wamen!
Now out in the most recent issue of @jpeaceresearch.bsky.social: Ragnhild Nordås, Ingrid Vik Bakken and I examine public perceptions of whether and under what conditions violent state repression has a demobilizing - or a mobilizing - effect
What an enriching and fun week in Uppsala. Exchanges with amazing scholars, lovely weather, Swedish fika, and feedback on the first results in Karin Johansson Schaftenaar's and my project on backlash against global CRSV mitigation efforts. Mental and social battery depleted but man was it worth it!
This won't solve all problems overnight, but this is a massive win for Hungary, for Europe and for democracy
New open access publication out with my fabulous co-authors Ragnhild Nordås & Ingrid Vik Bakken. We examine public perceptions of the demobilizing effects of repression in a survey experiment. The results defy prominent gender stereotypes 👇 #PoliSky #GenderSky academic.oup.com/jpr/advance-...
The results show that rape is perceived as more demobilizing across the board. However, defying prominent gender stereotypes, respondents do not expect that women are more likely to demobilize than men, even following rape. Instead, they are assumed to mobilize friends and talk to journalists.
We use a survey experiment of a U.S. sample (N = 1,500), leveraging a vignette of a protest-repression scenario, which randomly varies the gender of the repressed protesters (men vs. women) and the repressive tactic (rape vs multiple electric shocks).
Northern lights over Hanover tonight. A reminder that there are still good things in the world
"The European Parliament unequivocally condemns the statements made by the Trump administration regarding Greenland, which constitute a blatant challenge to international law, to the principles of the United Nations Charter and to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a NATO ally."
Rare red cranes spotted by chance on the drive between Nemuro and Kushiro along the coastline 😊
