15yo is home from camp and he made me a clay medieval chalice in arts and crafts for my birthday
Astrology isn’t real, but finding random deposits of coins around my kid’s room has convinced me that Capricorns loving money is true
Honestly I think they’re pretty classy? Lemon-themed napkins and salt and pepper shakers are also from Dollarama lmao
I’be been deep-cleaning 15yo’s room while he’s at camp, and found this in one of his many sketchbooks. It’s kinda great, I think?? I love how he’s arranged these panels, can’t wait to interrogate him and learn more about this (Romanesque?) soldier who’s off adventuring on his own
Until I adopted Benedict from a neighbour who hand-raised him along with his siblings, all of my cats came from shelters and had some degree of trauma. Anyway, it’s wild to see this doofus sleep in any old position, unbothered about the possibility of predators or whatever else might be out there.
Good morning, please enjoy this NYT caption accidentally calling Queen Camilla a horse
On an absolutely, completely unrelated note, here’s a nice story that happened this week. 15yo has been saving up Lego gift cards for literal years. Earlier this month, he decided he wanted to spend his hundreds of Lego dollars so that he could get this sea serpent ship gift with purchase
Yeah! One of my favourite projects that I’ve ever worked on. A dream assignment!
My grandmother died this morning. She was one of my favourite people, like, ever - always so funny & so full of mischief. I will miss her an incredible amount, and I’m so grateful that we made the trip to Spain last year to spend what would turn out to be her last birthday with her. I’m heartbroken.
They have croissant nightlights at Dollarama, so obviously I had to get one. 15yo calls it the holy croissant.
I jokingly sent this to one of my fellow volunteers at our church’s soup kitchen, and now we are serving Ordinary Time hotdogs on Monday lol
This fancy Pilates place (that’s part of a chain!) opened a studio in my city and my gym recently closed, so I thought I’d try their intro special. But apparently you have to download an app to see their schedule. Also they spelled my name wrong. Anyway! Best way to ensure I never try your classes!
Every English person on my timeline today (Who am I kidding, I’m rooting for them against Argentina too)
Delighted to see that even Dortmund is posting flirty Haaland/Bellingham fan edits
… and then Harry Kane gets an arrow in the eye? (Kidding, kidding - I might be cheering for France, but I’d be fine if anyone but Argentina won. I just want them all to have a good time and do shirtless hugs)
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a person living through an Ontario summer must be in want of a dock on a lake
(And, as a teenager, he also needs a break between seeing stuff so that he can listen to music, text his friends, and generally decompress) On another note, as someone who likes Jewish history, you might enjoy this picture of him with the Maimonides statue in Cordoba!
15yo and I were howling at this earlier. It’s just perfectly done!
Me: if we moved to Spain and lived in one of the places we visited last year, which would you choose? 15yo: Seville, of course. Mother! I need to live in a city. A city with history. A city with Roman ruins. I can’t believe you would even ask me this question because the answer is so obvious.
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City dresses their statue of Baby Jesus in whatever uniform the national team is wearing in each game. My God I love the World Cup, just incredible things happening everywhere. Also, Sister Michael would no doubt approve, she loves a good statue.
You’re right, if I didn’t want you sitting in my tote and getting cat hair all over my things, I shouldn’t have left it on the couch. That’s on me.
Weirdly, I don’t seem to be able to DM you! But it was nothing thrilling, just me rolling my eyes about people’s participation in diet culture.
Thinking about El Escorial — a historical building just outside of Madrid that, among other things, has been a monastery, royal residence, school, museum, etc — which is dedicated to Saint Lawrence and, fiendishly, is laid out to look like a gridiron, the instrument that killed him.
“I know I mostly look like dad. I don’t know what I got from you. Your French unibrow maybe? I mean. It’s a good unibrow, so thank you.”
Bless this man, his excitement about Team Algeria and their base camp in Lawrence, Kansas, is just 🤌
I love Father James Martin (and Hasan Minhah). Some good Jesuit theology here — who are the oligarchs, and who are the members of the “outsider” group, and what are we doing to make things more equitable?
