another variant in Shortcuts: you can search symbols, but it won't surface the "deeper" variants that launchie allows you to use, like the star within a circle
since updating to tahoe i've been really enjoying a launchpad replacement app called launchie, & one customization option i love, & that i have NEVER seen anywhere else, is that you can choose any SF symbol you want to represent your "spaces"
...and in contacts you can choose from a selection of 47 emoji OR pick from all the emojis, no SF symbols, 18 colors. do these developers ever even see each other in the same room
...in reminders you can choose any emoji or pick from 71 SF symbols (?), with 12 color options...
love too customize my user profile... but not too much! it's almost fascinatingly dumb how this arbitrary assortment of emojis & colors changes from one app to another. in safari you can pick from 42 SF symbols and 15 colors...

but this two-tone view is hard to discover & easy to lose. hide the sidebar & it's gone. full screen, nah. window too small, gone. sidebar+folder bar too wide? no. folder bar too narrow? also no? what? why? why any of this? check out that busted sidebar button lol, it just looks like that
using macos dark mode activates a setting in notes to turn light mode back on in the notes editor. then, if you're looking at it in the windowed view & the window is big enough, you get this beautiful split-pane two-tone design, with dark & light glass side by side! wow! surprising, delightful!
