My old neighborhood in Houston was dry until 2017. After that a wine bar opened up across the street. There’s not a lot of zoning in Houston. My nextdoor neighbors moved & the new owner opened a massage business opened up in their house.

The Heights dry zone was a relic from the pre-Prohibition era, when it was incorporated as its own city, bordered by the 610 Loop to the north, Oxford Street to the east, I-10 to the south and North Durham Drive to the west. Houston annexed the Heights in 1918,

Prohibition came and went, and in 1937 the Texas Supreme Court ruled that because the former municipality was dry before it dissolved, its residents had to vote separately to overturn the status. The historic core's law remained on the books for another 80 years, while the larger neighborhood's reach extended with new (and wet) development.

There used to be a junk store here in Houston that also sold toiletries so old they were almost antiques. This was the sign on their building. A coworker of mine said his mom shopped there (for food 👀🤢) when he was a kid.

Based on information provided to us by the project team, the condition is limited to isolated areas of the finish layer and does not affect the underlying waterproofing membrane.
The project stakeholders are aware of the condition, and corrective actions have been identified.

Visited my mother-in-law yesterday. This is her amazing black bear bathroom. I have always admired how she follows her own vision. She is really just a big kid disguised as a grandma.

She’s arguing that Dems wrongfully voted in the Rep primary to swing the vote to one of her primary opponents. They’re not supposed to do that but there’s no enforcement. State is trying to pass new law for closed primaries.

The Copenhaver campaign's argument is centered on a decades-old Indiana law requiring voters to have voted for the majority of a party's candidates in the last general election to be eligible to vote in a primary. If they didn't vote in the last general election, the law says the voter should pledge their intention to vote for most of the party's candidates in the next one.

Some Indiana Republicans, including Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, are pushing to require voters to register with a party to vote in a primary election. This effort to "close" primaries follows multiple pushes over past elections to cross party lines in primary elections. Legislation is expected to be filed next session, though similar bills failed in recent years.

“The correlation was obvious to me, with the timing,” he says. Berulis also began to worry about how exactly whoever had been threatening him knew where he lived.

“I had just moved into that address three months prior. The only people that had that address were my utilities and the [Office of Personnel Management], and the HR systems within my agency,” he says. “I hadn't even updated my bank, my cell phone, my car registration, my license, all of it was not on that address yet.”

Since then, Berulis has laid low. He filed a police report, included in the suit and viewed by WIRED, and had the car seen by a mechanic who, according to the report, found “that the driver-side front impact/airbag sensor had also been removed but noted that the remaining wires had been spliced together, completing the circuit in a manner that prevented the vehicle from detecting or logging the missing component, while also preventing the vehicle from activating its safety protocols, alerting the driver, or engaging limp mode.” The police report also indicates that fingerprints had been found on Berulis’ car.

Israel is not our friend. They should not receive a dime in US aid. This would give them unfettered access to our cyber defense technology & directed energy weapons which they will turn around & use on Americans.

The shift will strip away the political and diplomatic oversight mechanisms that make the relationship publicly accountable, moving it from a visible annual aid vote into the opaque machinery of defense acquisition, where oversight is limited and political accountability is minimal. The result would be a defense relationship that is simultaneously deeper and less transparent.

The House has included in a bill to fund US defense a provision that gives Israel unprecedented access to US technology & data. This is section 224 entitled “United States-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative“ in the House version of the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
