Still from the Framed 'guess the film from the screenshot' game. This is technically the most expensive movie ever made (admittedly mostly for COVID reasons). Sheesh but it looks like garbage! Flat light, dull framing, cheap set, utterly inexpressive, actors look lost in a void. What on earth?

Important update, it was in THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951) and EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS (where it doubled for Moscow. It DOES look like the Kremlin a bit!)
There IS a goddamned castle in the middle of Washington DC! Square miles of functional 60s concrete office buildings and then this red brick gothic looking palace thing with multiple towers and ornate windows! Built in 1855 by the Smithsonian, who apparently use it now as offices.

Playing 'framed' - the 'guess the film from screenshots' game -and this screenshot was up first. And at first I had the deadening feeling of 'oh it is a modern film so generic you can never tell what it is from'. But then I realised I had only ever seen those buildings in one film

I've always like John Carpenter's THE FOG, but also always thought it got a bit dull when it was 'day time'. But look at the first shot it has of daytime. Gosh, it's GORGEOUS. It is like a watercolour, but austere and haunted.
