7/23/26 Celebration Rock - Japandroids Fast paced indie rock with pounding drums that doesn’t really do anything for me. There’s no issues, but it doesn’t quite do anything to stand out. Perfectly good for 2012, so I’d at least recommend it. 2.5/5

7/21/26 Bocanada - Gustavo Cerati Soft Latin rock, late 90s downtempo electronic, bits of a few soaring riffs, this album gives itself a LOT to work with. It feels like it was only possible to make this kind of thing in 1999, and it’s on my board for another listen down the line. 3.5/5

7/20/26 Back to Black - Amy Winehouse CLASSIC record, front to back. Her voice is so commanding of your attention it feels like the driver of every song. This wouldn’t feel out of place decades ago with how the bands are composed either. Rest in peace Amy, I wish I heard this sooner. 4/5

7/19/26 New Avatar - Kelela Entrances you from start to finish. Makes you feel like you only remember the colors of what happened last night. It almost sounds sensual? But it’s seen through smoke and haze. Not sure what to call it besides r&b like, so go hear it for yourself. 3.5/5

7/18/26 Struggler - Genesis Owusu This whole record feels like he’s trying to figure out how to mesh his style with the post punk revival that came up on redstar wu, but this really comes together in the back half. Really makes me wonder what his debut is like. 3.5/5

7/17/26 The Decline of British Sea Power - British Sea Power If you like all aspects of post-punk revival you'll probably like this record. If you're me and struggle half the time with the genre then you'll give it that score. Slow but not so lumbering, sometimes jumpy, overall O.K. 2.5/5

7/13/26 Bright Flight - Silver Jews I think if I wanted to change up my music after writing two very good albums, I too would hone in on my songwriting abilities. Very nice alt country that sticks out amidst the lyrics that reminded me of David’s struggles at the time. 3.5/5

7/8/26 I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One - Yo La Tengo Calm and autumnal and the overall sound is nice but there’s a few songs that outright bored me for whatever reason. I’m not sure if it’s because they dragged on, but this will be answered by another listen down the line. For now: 3/5

7/5/26 Melody A.M. - Röyksopp Today I wanted to listen to something that wouldn’t take too much effort to hear and this passed that test. A simple downtempo album that feels more at home in ads, which is ironic considering what its most well known song was used for. 3/5

7/4/26 America - Don Deacon A vast, sprawling album that seems to point out the scope of its namesake instead of diving in. Unfortunately for me, it sounded more like a soundtrack to that pointing than anything else. I’d call this perfectly ok indietronica if I knew any better. 3/5

7/3/26 (#2) Bad Brains - Bad Brains It’s almost funny to see where a lot of hardcore albums got their roots from. This is like any good punk album from the 80s where the rhythms are fast, the lyrics might be hard to know, and the guitars always go off. Also surprisingly has reggae in it. 3.5/5

7/3/26 Theft World - Lip Critic This (literally) goes harder than its predecessor, but I just think I couldn’t find a song to look back on. The louder style it has almost reminds me of some digital hardcore artists instead of the punk the rym page it says it has. 3/5

7/1/26 Hex Dealer - Lip Critic I got baited into thinking this was gonna be an album with post punk vocals and harder electronic elements. Nope! I got my face beat in by “digital hardcore breakbeat,” to quote a friend. Consider me intrigued for their album that dropped in may. 👁️👄👁️ 3.5/5

6/30/26 Heaven to a Tortured Mind - Yves Tumor *Silky* smooth psych and rock that almost reminds me of what Prince found on his best work. I'm not sure what else I could say to describe it besides the album cover matching its... sensuality? Glittery quality? I'll workshop it. 3.5/5

6/29/26 Blue Bell Knoll - Cocteau Twins I think this might be their weakest record I've heard so far, BUT that's only by their standards. Elizabeth Fraser hits some crazy notes on this one and you'll float as high as ever during the runtime. Overall, not bad, pretty solid. 3.5/5

6/28/26 Polygondwanaland - King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Your brain will look like the album cover with how much time it takes to dry your brain. It goes fast, then slowwws down until the last song, and gets back to kicking your head. I can see why fans enjoy it. 3.5/5

6/27/26 Flying Microtonal Banana - King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard It’s certainly odd, but the way they limited themselves adds to its charm. It feels like you’re listening to some guy who’s stoned while also moonlighting as a literal snake charmer and guitar player. Not that bad. 3.5/5

6/26/26 Pink Flag - Wire Perfectly good punk record that breezed by. Not sure why it got all the hype it has, but maybe i'm saying that through the lens of every other punk album that got inspired by this. Not for me, but I would still recommend. 3/5

6/25/26 I’m in Your Mind Fuzz - King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Big fan of albums that give me a sigh of relief to see that they’re still going. Somebody decided to look into a guitarist’s brain on acid and this is what came back. I wonder how much of this got worked into nonagon infinity… 4/5

6/24/26 REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE - Genesis Owusu This man effortlessly blends three or four genres while backing it up with poignant lyrics. At worst, if the lyrics don’t do it for you the tracks certainly will. I’ll definitely be circling back around to this guy again. 4/5

6/23/26 Paper Mâché Dream Balloon - King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard Very nice of them to make an album that's ripped straight out of the 60s psychedelic folk scene. Committing to that sound is cool, but I think folk being a picky genre for me to enjoy didn't help. Good album though! 3/5

6/21/26 Hypermagic Mountain - Lightning Bolt Smoking the shit that made the unstoppable force meet the immovable object. I tried playing this on my guitar and it begged me to stop. The pedals weren’t having it either. One of the genres on the rym page is called brutal prog; you do the math. 3.5/5

6/20/26 A Hero's Death - Fontaines D.C. Probably their least interesting album only because it's very much transitioning to the sound you'd hear on Skinty Fia and Romance. You could hear the undertones on each song. Very much felt like a middle ground between the albums that surround it. 3.5/5

6/19/26 you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love - Olivia Rodrigo This is the first time I’ve heard one of her albums in full, but it’s weird that the weakest part of this is just the lyrics because a lot of good and catchy melodies in here. She’s finding new depth while branching out. 3.5/5

6/17/26 American Water - Silver Jews Whatever notes the natural bridge had on being mellowed out is replaced by alcohol, drug, and medication fueled cynicism. It’s a haunting note on david berman’s life at the time, but it also felt like he shined up his work to show what a creative he was. 4/5

6/16/26 Starlite Walker - Silver Jews The only thing that makes this a silver jews album to me is that david berman is on vocals. I listened to this because it was 35 minutes, but it’s absurd the jump in quality they took from this to the natural bridge. OK I guess. 2/5
