Our server turned out to be a gamer so we talked about video games. I got a fancy French sparkling cider, lemon crema and then surprised with a slice of basque cheesecake for my birthday!

Birthday dinner at Lupi and Iris. Food was off the chain and I snagged a chef's counter reservation last minute because of Bastille Days. Great service.

Ishiuchi Miyako (Japanese, born 1947). Hiroshima #9 (Ritsu Ogawa), 2007. I saw this in person when the collection was at the Getty Museum. The entire collection of photographs and preserved items from post-bombing Hiroshima will stick with me forever.

I decided to make my own cake for my birthday so I made a Chantilly berry icebox cake since that didn't require using the oven. But trying to make whipped topping in a 78 degree kitchen this morning was a challenge, thank God for mise in place and a frozen bowl and taking the cream out last
