#MosaicMonday has come round again, & having not been so ready for it recently, I thought I’d try & make more effort to post again… Again, seen in #Rome, as we were exiting a subway station near the top of the Spanish Steps, a very #modern large wall of mosaic! #altText will be tough to be good on!

Installed on one of the exit paths from (I think) #Spagna metro station, which has quite a lot of modern mosaics installed.
A large rectangular horizontal wall mosaic in non-regular tiling. The tiles are not all square at all!
The majority is in white and pale grey tessella, with blood-red tiles scattered across it making a word partially-visible with letters including ‘R’, ‘A’, ‘D’ and, at far-right, ‘S’. Some of the letters look like they are ink which has been purposefully smudged or rubbed over, and there are smaller ‘ink marks’ in red across the upper half of the mosaic.
Throughout the mosaic, there are black or pale yellow tiles making shapes that could be isolated flecking if it was a painting. The background almost looks like many ribbon streams.

Treated myself and family to an early celebratory birthday meal out - shepherds’ pie, fishcake with poached egg, sizeable burger - all delicious!! But… in warning… don’t order too sizeable a starter in case you just can’t munch it all… Service & food both fantastic!! #TheIvy #treat

Shepherds pie with peas and gravy on a white deep-centred plate, bordered in the green and gold pattern of The Ivy restaurant. The potato layer is browned perfectly on top.

Haddock and salmon breaded fishcake, on a bed of peas, topped by a beautifully-poached egg and garnish. The egg has been cut and deep orange yolk has flowed down and over the cut fishcake onto the deep white dish central area, with The Ivy green and gold border shown on the dish’s surrounding lip.

Beef burger, cut apart and showing sesame-seed-topped bun and thick burger with cheese topping, on a white plate, from the young adults menu at The Ivy. Filling!

What a day!! Such speedy two hour matches for the second set of quarterfinals…. Friday is going to be a crazy good match between #Zverev and #Fery @wimbledonltc.bsky.social - looking forward to that especially!!

Day 10 tennis results from Wimbledon 2026 tournament (screenshot from app display for completed matches) showing the three-set results for both men’s’ quarterfinals played today, both pretty fast matches, with Britain’s Arthur Fery winning 6-4, 7-6, 6-0 against Italy’s Flávio Covelli, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev winning 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 against USA’s Taylor Fritz.
Fery will meet Zverev on Friday for one of the semi-finals.

Starting my office working day at 25.7C with 45% humidity. Yesterday it rose to 28.6C by 5pm. I was roasting & distinctly unproductive at my desk.

Hanging up in #Rome, I quite like this black and white mosaic for #MosaicMonday, which is edged on two sides by what I have learnt to be a ‘guilloche’ (pattern). The 4 octagons are all with a different design and triangles and squares make up the gaps in the square section. Very #striking, though!

Within an inner white border is a set of 4 individual designs in octagon format, separated by small triangles and squares. From the wider viewpoint here, the triangles could be 8 points to each octagon also. They interlock with the triangles being used by more than one octagon in that sense.
Each design inside the octagons is different, such as a knot pattern, a star pattern, etc.

Regular commute into Liverpool has a really white/grey sky… along with #rain… boooo!! Bring back the blue skies again!

One of a few visitors to our front door area this evening, after a really wet rainy day… moving at a relatively fast pace… we had hordes of tiny round snails last week, but they were more black and white, this one is shades of brown… #snail #moving along…

It’s also #MosaicMonday today again, and I had a look through photos I took in #Rome again in 2023 and came upon this quartet of pictures on a theme, as attached - I zoomed into the bottom left one for ease of viewing too, but made sure to add some #altText to the images as I usually do!

Images shows a quartet of four similar square mosaic pictures, each with a horse and a rider or groom holding the horse from his bit or mouth area.
The horses appear brown in colour, and the men holding them are dressed in appropriate riding clothing of various styles. Each horse has raised one of its front legs and bends the leg in the air at its knee.
Each image has a pale white or cream background and there are no other items visible except for riding equipment. Each man is well-wrapped around their torso with coloured layers (green, red, blue details) amongst the white layers. They all have some kind of whip or crop in one hand away from the horse itself.

First of the three, #Day5, theme was ‘From an album with a front cover you love’ - had to go looking - I picked #Bellowhead’s 2006 album ‘Burlesque’ and a fave track from there, “London Town”, with its fantastic energy and very distinctive sound! #DavidsMonthOfMusic

It’s a Monday and that means it’s also #MosaicMonday, and this week I found this mosaic photo from my travels in #Rome a couple of years ago, of two Romans who look like they’re about to eat (or present charred offerings to the gods… one of the two!!) #altText attached to the photo here…

A wall-hung and landscape-oriented rectangular mosaic in monochromatic dark brown and cream colours is shown.
There are two human figures standing in the middle and standing either side of what seems to be a waist-high burner with flames coming out of the top. The figures are fully-dressed in togas and their flesh is portrayed with the same monochrome tiles as the togas (silhouette forms) and the figure on the right is holding their right arm out with a dish balanced on the palm-up hand, over the burner, towards the other person.
There appears to be an ‘O’ and possibly an ‘s’ on its side shown in the background near the figure on the left, but no real sense of whether they are objects or they represent words.
Surrounding the main picture is a series of boxes outlined with black lines and the boxes contain lines: either a single line, or a single line within a rectangle, or a single line within a diamond shape. There are 6 boxes on the horizontals and 5 on the verticals including the corners.
The mosaic is complete with no tiles missing.

What should I pick for #MosaicMonday, I wonder? I went for some photos I took at the #Rome museum #PalazzoMassimo of an amazingly complete mosaic in 2023, as shown:

The main panel has a circular centrepiece, with decorative border, resembling a whirlpool-like effect in geometric (triangular) shapes, with dark brown, mid brown, fawn and beige coloured tessellae making up the pattern. The four corners outside this circle centrepiece have two sets of matching opposing decoration of flower motifs pointing inwards. The square has a decorative border in dark and mid brown and cream colours.

The main mosaic spiral converges to a centre with a spiders web effect and 12 points or 11 segments to it. Each segment is mid-brown but with a cream flash on each segment from centre to edge. There is a small central circle to this.
