Really excited for my first "Born in Dismal" hack based on @voxparlour.bsky.social's excellent and critically acclaimed DISMAL KEEP line. HUNTERS OF DISMAL KEEP expands the system to include the original idea of monster hunting and crafting from their scavenged remains. Kickstarter coming November

God this is such a great source of inspiration. Jun Suemi's style is just spectacular. I decided to do a quick and dirty ten minute digital ink sketch & color of my take on Suemi's Wizard. I tried to match colors as best as my colorblind eyes would allow.

A dark beared figure wields magic in his right hand and a mace in his left. He wears a shaded green short sleeved tunic with a yellowy leather chest piece and golden belt with a circular moons motif. He also wears yellowy leather boots and a cuff on his left wrist. Above his tunic and leather chest piece is a sweeping red cloak that covers both of his shoulders and goes to his calves. I've been working on my #AppxNJam 2026 entry in my fleeting free time today and I think I got my cover in order with as much time as I can spare. I feel like this sets the tone pretty well. Now onto finding time to write and design!

Been trying to make designated time, no matter how limited some days, to draw some more. It’s tough! I’ve been in a science-fantasy mood, so here’s a techy-magus dude.

A science-fantasy tech-magus. They wear a tattered and dusty cloak and hood. Peeking out are two glowing yellow eyes and a weathered metal rebreather of some sort with neon green tubing. The tech/magus’ body is wrapped in soiled bandages and they wear a simple brown tunic, tattered with age. Upon their waist is a hemp rope belt with two nondescript techy-looking devices on their hip. Their left hand casts some sort of oily dark blue magic.

I’ve been running a solo adventure using @emielboven.itch.io’s The Electrum Archive. I never really got solo play until recently, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised to be having such a good time. Here’s one of my crew: Kor the Manhunter. A fleshgraft session went awry and he now has a crab arm.

Kor the Manhunter has an aqua colored crab arm and wears a weathered brown duster with flowing blue trousers and brown boots. He wears a tattered red cloak and a strange airfoil shaped helmet that reveals his lower face like an odd Batman mask. His left hand and side is covered in a skin tight dark brown wetsuit. He carries a telescope.

I’ve not drawn regularly in a minute, so I did a few warm up quick fifteen minute drawings tonight. Here’s one!

In inky black caverns beneath the fortress, two goblins (one burly and carrying a large sword, the other stout and wielding black flames) lead a horde of unknowable quantities of goblins towards the surface.

Above a fortress sits solitary in the pitch,light only coming from he moon and stars. A lone guard patrols the decaying battlements oblivious to danger lurking nearby.

Oh no. I’ve done some more.

I’ve been trying my best to emulate that old black and white cross-hatch filled OD&D art style while maintaining whatever passes for my “style.” I think I did pretty good? Definite room for improvement, but I’m pretty pleased with it.

I abandoned ship a bit after the watercolors failed (user error) and just finished it off with paint brush markers. It was fun going non-digital again, even if I see where I went wrong.

February Day 2, 17th overall. Continuing the iconic D&D action figure line in this paper mini style. Today we're playing with nefarious Warduke, skulking Zarak, and wicked Kelek.

Warduke keeps getting autocorrect as Warlike, so heads up. He wears blue chain on his left side with black leather boots. He has a spiky black and red pauldron and spiky metal gauntlet and boot cuff on his left side. He wields a corrupted magical sword in his left hand and a metal shield with a demon's face on his right. He wears a furry loin cloth, held in place by a golden belt with a demon's face on it. He has a winged blue metal helm that obscures his face, but causes his eyes to glow a wicked red.

Next is Zarak, a half-orc assassin of some sort. He wears a dark blue gambeson over dark brown trousers and black boots that are stitched together. He wears red leather gloves and a black and red leather mantle over a dark blue tattered cloak. He has two brown leather belts, with a pouch on his right side and two daggers accented with gold on his left. In his right hand he carries. golden dagger. He has a dark blue hood that slightly obscures his green, scarred face. Two ears poke out.

Lastly is the evil wizard Kelek. He is a hunched over pale, elderly man. He is bald, but has a crimson gem embedded in his forehead. He has a long grey and white beard with a long mustache. He wears a black, flowing robe that covers his body to his ankles. The ends of the sleeves and bottom of the robe are decorated in a crimson red pattern. He wears red canvas slacks and black leather boots. His forearms poke out of his oversized, flowing sleeves, covered in dirty wrappings. In his left hand he wields some sort of red magic, in his right he carries some sort of magical focus that looks like a golden amulet. His robe has a vampire's cowl behind him, flanked by spikes on his shoulders.

Day 1 of February and 16 overall. More knights and a wizard based off my son’s castle playset!

Three figures, two knights flank a gnome wizard.

The first knight wears chainmail and a chain hood with an orange surcoat. The armor is accented with four black diamonds and a brown leather belt, gloves, and boots. In her right hand is a sword held aloft and her left rests on the leather scabbard attached to her belt. She is tanned.

The second is a gnomish wizard, standing about half as tall as the knights. He has wild white hair and large mustache under a golden crown. He has darker skin and wears a red robe accented with golden fabric. He wears a golden cloak clasped together with a gold rope. In his right hand is a glowing staff with a magical yellow gem. In his left he wields some sort of yellow magic.

The last knight also wears chainmail and a chain hood, but with a purple surcoat. His armor is accented with four black diamonds and a black leather belt, gloves, and boots. He carries a small wooden shield in his right hand and a glaive in his left. He is pale, with dark eyes and a great dark brown mustache. Mustaches rock.

It is in fact NOT Gandalf. It is James Earl Jones depicting Thulsa Doom in the ‘80s Conan The Barbarian movie.

He wears a quasi-ancient Egyptian headdress and cultist robes with a giant brass girdle. On his back he wears a cloak that looks as if make from some sort of ghillie suit material.

I can’t help with what colors things are, sadly I don’t see them very well. Sorry.

Day 15. I made and posted a new thing about half of the month between travel and illness. I’ll take it! I decided to draw up some of the iconic D&D action figures in the simple “paper mini” style I’ve been playing with: Strongheart, Mercion, and Peralay.

Three classic D&D action figures characters.

First up is Mercion, the good cleric. She wears shining plate with a yellow surcoat and white hooded cloak. On her surcoat is black Pegasus. She wears a dark brown leather belt and lighter brown gloves and boots. In her right hand she carries a golden holy symbol with a Pegasus inlaid and in her left a quarter staff. She has fair skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes.

Next is Strongheart, the lawful good paladin. He wears shining chain and plate and a winged helm with blue plumage and the visor up. He wears a blue gray chain cape and has a blue skirt. On his chest is an azure lion sigil. He has a black leather belt and boots. He has an olive skin tone and dark mustache. In his right hand he raises a long sword.

Last is Peralay the elf. He is a mix of a fighter and a wizard. He wears chain with a green surcoat that goes to his claves that is accented with small golden bucklers. He wears a dark green cloak with a vampire like collar and brown leather belt, bandolier, and turned up toe booties. He has pale skin with pale blonde shoulder length hair. He wears a golden circlet. In his right hand he carries a wooden shield with a golden griffon’s head painted on it and in his left he carries a shimmering green magical sword.

Day 14. The Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. While MPatHG doesn’t always hit for me (‘tis but a scratch), I always have dug the design of their black knight. Boars are rad as hell.

Day 13 and also #goblinweek Day 1 Glibbik the Goblin Knight. He just wants to be a hero!

Glibbik the Goblin Knight is a green goblin with a shock of bright verdant hair. He grins with his left hand raising a weathered dark gray sword and his left foot rests upon a battle-scarred bucket helm.

Glibbik wears a faded red surcoat with the sigil of a fish skeleton on a metallic shield. Underneath he wears dark gray short-sleeved chain. Over it all is a tattered black cloak.

Day 12. I’ve really been enjoying this little paper mini style, but wanted to spice up the posing. Red knight on a horse. Let’s go!

Day 11. I liked drawing the fish knight and dragon knight, so I decided to expand and create the dragon knight’s retainers/warband.

Four fantasy warriors, all clad in blood red with a dragon motif.

The first carries a bow and arrow. Their surcoat is blood red and they wear a tattered black cloak, obscuring their face.

The second wears a reverse color scheme, with the surcoat being black with a red dragon and the under clothing being blood red. They wear a black helmet with silver accents and carry a dark gray spear.

The third is the dragon knight themselves. They wear dark mail with black armor and a red tabard with a black dragon. They wear a red cloak and their face is obscured by red wraps. They carry a dark metal sword and a helm tucked under arm.

The fourth is the standard bearer. It’s a dark metal pole with a red flag and black dragon. They wear dark mail with a blood red tabard with a black dragon. They have a few bits of black armor on their elbows and knees and wear a black bucket helm. In their left they carry a dark metal messer.

Day 10, belated. My son got these knight toys for the holidays, so I decided to draw them up. He loved seeing his toys on the screen and kept comparing them to the drawings. It was a heart-warming moment that I didn’t expect!

Four knights. Presumably of the round table?

Knight 1 wears black plate accented with gold. He has a kettle sort of helm with a golden feather. Under the black plate is dark gray mail. He wielded a scaled black shield and dark metal sword.

Knight 2 is more of a soldier or footman. He wears traditional chain under an off white tabard with a Red Cross. He is tanned with a brown beard and prominent mustache. In his right hand he carries a large axe and his left rests upon the pommel of a sword at his waist.

Knight 3 is a shining knight in plate. He wears light golden chain and an off white tabard with three golden crowns over his left breast. His tabard/surcoat is accented blue and he wears blue plumage on his helm. He is actively pulling a sword with his right hand from a scabbard on his left.

Knight 4 is the king. He wears darker plate with light chain. He has a blue surcoat with five golden crowns at decoration: one on his chest and two above each thigh. He wears a golden cape and carries a long sword and shield (also blue with three golden crowns as decoration.)

Day 9. Today I’m doing all of my “canonical” Souls games characters. I’m a newish fan of the genre and over the past three years have devoured them all. In order, starting with Demons’ Souls and ending with Elden Ring. It’s been one hell of a journey.

Five “canon” heroes from five Souls games.

First is Auros the Scholar. He wears a massive yellow turban that covers all facial features save for one glowing blue eye. He has a rough brown tunic with blueish-black leather boots and gloves. He wears flowing gray pants tucked into his boots and has a magic wand in one hand and a kris in the other.

Next is Ro the Pyromancer. He summons fire with his right hand and carries a black halberd in his left. He wears a black hood that covers his undead face. Over chain armor he has a blue and red surcoat with golden accents above black boots.

The Iron Fox is a duelist who wields two rapiers. He has a metal mask on top of which he wears a feathered cap with a broad brim. He has a jester’s garb, colored brown and dirty yellow and wears brown leather pants with metal gauntlets and boots.

On the second row is Mance, a large man wearing metal armor over a dark blue robe. His hands are wrapped in bandages and he summons fire with one and carries a dark gray axe in the other. His face is masked by a black hood and he has brown leather boots.

Lastly is Spellblade Leto. He wears a bucket helmet and metal plate that was scales attached to it. He has brown leather gloves and thigh-high leather boots and a tattered gray-blue skirt and cloak. He carries a magic staff in his left hand and wields a glowing aqua-color magic great sword in his right.

Day 8. Oops all Goblin(oid)s!

Four green goblinoids.

The first is an average sized hobgoblin wearing a black tunic with a yellow skull motif and tattered brown cloak. He wields a spiked mace and a skull as a holy symbol.

The second is a large bugbear shaman or magic user. She is casting some green glowing spell in her right hand and clutches a skull holy symbol in her left. She has tattooed scars on her left side and wears tattered brown rags.

The third is also a large bugbear, but a warrior. He has a metal skull pauldron on his right shoulder and carries a skull-headed flail and dented small shield. He wears a tattered black skirt and shares the tattooed scars with the shaman.

The fourth is a little bright green goblin. They wear tattered rags and have two curved daggers. Their body is covered in scars.

Day 7. Two knights: the Fish Knight and Dragon Knight.
