Oh oh oh but *this* is magic. The depth of it but way he writes, like it's carried on the breeze. @saltpublishing.com releasing some absolute gems
Catching up on some World Cup highlights and I'm enjoying how hard "Weston McKennie"belongs on this roster
This, currently on Mubi as part of their Wiseman retrospective, is an astonishing film. Everything I'm looking for in a documentary
The sole evidence against the supposition that the world is getting crueller is that you couldn't make this show nowadays
Not that I have a type but these are two of my favourite films of the past two decades
It's been a busy day because life is like that so I'm only now reading up on the victims of yesterday's attack, and fucking hell, man, what kind of world is this
Okay, a rollercoaster first morning and definitely *not* what I thought I was signing up for, but I think I got this. Going to sign out my socials and go have an early lunch
Oh shit, just found this. Really wish I'd done my due diligence before signing a two-year contract
First day at my new job running Hitler's PR. Time to take a big sip of my coffee and check the internet
In a week when I had an event cancelled because the bookshop had sold "around [a non-round number] of tickets" this is quite satisfying.
Look, my natural instinct is always to self-deprecate to the point of sabotage ("By popular demand: for one night only") but I'm really excited to hear @benpester.bsky.social talking about The Expansion Project, deservedly shortlisted for the Goldsmiths prize, and think this might genuinely be fun.
Live in Lincoln? Like books? Have plans on Saturday October 25th? If you answered "Yes", "Some" and "Not yet" then do come along to this at @waterstones.bsky.social Lincoln. I'll be giddy from a three-hour solo train trip and positively bursting with insights, gossip and maledictions for my enemies
Saturday's march was a broad church. You had proud, 1930s-style racists who call themselves racists and 1940s-present-style racists who don't like it if you call them racists. Truly it encompassed a spectrum of beliefs
Heartbreaking. Jon is the first person I met in Crystal Palace - we discussed David Gates. I've known him for ten years and never once saw his legs. He was like a creature from Greek myth: half-man, half-counter. Very hard to imagine this community without him.
Exciting booty from a long-awaited visit to @deadinkbookshop.bsky.social
One of these being "put suncream on them" is making me want to strangle someone
The hill I'm prepared to die on is that not all deceptions are double bluffs. Some things are just bluffs
Some exciting (to me) post. Featuring very kind words from Louisa Hall and @bcdreyer.social. Totally okay to judge this one by its cover IMO. Out in the US at the start of December.
Finally understand people who match their socks to their shoes. Just enormously satisfying. (The book so far is terrific and the exhibition depressed the hell out of me; also terrific.)
