Governor Newsom says federal investigators are digging through his circle, including friends, former staff, and people connected to his family.

No charges have been filed against Governor Newsom, and the DOJ still hasn’t explained what exactly it’s looking for.

President Trump says everyone is equal under the law.

Newsom says this isn’t about a crime. He says it’s about 2028 and the possibility of a presidential run.

A lot of people see Newsom as one of the Democrats’ strongest potential candidates for 2028 and someone with a real shot at winning the presidency.

Persian-American political analyst Ari Aramesh makes an interesting argument here. Whether you agree with him or not, there’s a legitimate debate about how often Trump’s biggest promises ended up delivering less than what was originally promised. Fair criticism, or does he have it wrong?

Trump governs like he campaigns: maximum attention at launch, minimum followthrough at the finish. DOGE, healthcare reform, infrastructure week, North Korea talks, trade tariffs, the border wall, and of course IRAN.

It’s a pattern.

He loves the announcement more than the execution.

As I predicted, Trump didn’t end up getting a better deal with Iran than the Obama-Biden administration did.

After years of calling the original nuclear deal a disaster, Trump now appears to have accepted a weaker and more flawed version of the very agreement he walked away from. He scrapped a deal that was already working, spent years trying to replace it, brought the United States and Iran into a costly and dangerous war, and ended up right back where he started.

And if reports are right, the amount of frozen Iranian assets Trump is apparently willing to release would be almost forty times larger than the amount Obama and Biden were mocked and attacked for.

The Obama-Biden deal was already working. Trump tore it up and now appears to have settled for something worse.

So who exactly is the joke now?

President Trump spent the night trying to stop the Prime Minister of Israel from pushing the region toward a wider war, yet the crisis keeps escalating. That’s a troubling sign for a President who promised stability. When the United States can’t influence a close ally during a crisis, voters notice.

When the President of the United States spends an entire night trying to prevent the Prime Minister of Israel from dragging the region into a war with Iran and still cannot stop it, voters notice.

The situation in the Persian Gulf is growing more dangerous by the hour, and voters will ultimately judge the results, not the rhetoric.

At this point, Republican control of the House appears increasingly out of reach. The Senate is a different story, but even there Republican seats in Ohio, Texas, North Carolina, Maine, Alaska, and Iowa are facing mounting pressure.

With a new conflict now underway, there is a growing possibility that Republicans could lose far more ground than they expected. When an ineffective administration occupies the White House and the President of the United States cannot restrain the actions of one of America’s closest allies, political consequences are inevitable.

These kinds of developments did not occur under President Bush, President Obama, or President Biden. Their administrations demonstrated a far greater ability to manage crises and prevent regional tensions from spiraling further out of control.
