4/5 Certain harmonics/phonetics (i.e. "Chant"), or gestures ("Runes"), are some ways to manipulate energies you aren't naturally in control of. And there's ways to "store" uncommon energies in items ("Amulets") so you can access them, later. That's why most of my Mages wear collections of jewelry.
3/5 Anyone can learn to use Magic, but certain kinds of Empowerment, especially "Elemental" Powers, can make utilizing higher levels of it significantly easier. They can often Feel, or even See, external energies through the fields they generate.

Adding more background elements is useful for Storytelling. But it'd just detract Focus away from the Important Parts of a Pinup. That's why most "Pinup Art" is on blank backgrounds in the first place. That wall SHOULD read as Practically Invisible. It's only there to justify the tilted pose.
