We're right back here again. Unspecified and general "public safety" concerns don't even meet their own _extremely permissive_ regulations. "We might have to work extra to find someone again" isn't on the list.

[8 CFR §287.8(a)](2) Deadly force. (i) Deadly force is any use of force that is likely to cause death or serious physical injury. (ii) Deadly force may be used only when a designated immigration officer, as listed in paragraph (a)(2)(iii) of this section, has reasonable grounds to believe that such force is necessary to protect the designated immigration officer or other persons from the imminent danger of death or serious physical injury.

This is 8 CFR §235.3(b)(5)(ii).

(ii) Verified lawful permanent residents.
If the claim to lawful permanent resident status is verified, and such status has not been terminated in exclusion, deportation, or removal proceedings, the examining immigration officer shall not order the alien removed pursuant to section 235(b)(1) of the Act. The examining immigration officer will determine in accordance with section 101(a)(13)(C) of the Act whether the alien is considered to be making an application for admission. If the alien
is determined to be seeking admission

and the alien is otherwise admissible, except that he or she is not in possession of the required documentation, a discretionary waiver of documentary requirements may be considered in accordance with section 211(b) of the Act and §211.1(b)(3) of this chapter or the alien’s inspection may be deferred to an onward office for presentation of the required documents. If the alien appears to be inadmissible, the immigration officer may initiate removal proceedings against the alien under section 240 of the Act.

Sure, less funding is certainly better than more funding in the abstract, but their 2025 funding was so cartoonishly high compared to a normal operating appropriation that it doesn't really provide much of an incentive to negotiate.

Following the Department’s review, the Secretary has determined the situation in Yemen no longer meets the criteria for an ongoing armed conflict that poses a serious threat to the personal safety of returning Yemeni nationals. Although there may be sporadic instances of truncated armed conflict in Yemen, improvements demonstrate that this conflict does not appear to pose a threat to the safety of returning Yemeni nationals.

The word "homeland" is a strange word. "Homeland" Defense sounds more German than American.

Also, it smacks of isolationism, which I am uncomfortable with.

Third, what we are really talking about, I suppose, is "population" as opposed to "homeland".

This, to which I cannot reply, seems wrong to me. Were it true, Little Rock couldn't have happened. Eisenhower seized control of the Arkansas Guard out of active state duty. I would be interested to see a distinction or a legal change since 1957.
