What I want is to get loose; not to claim or be claimed, Falling elegantly over the rocks into the creek and gone Silent, living, moving; sometimes roar, bubble, splash White, clear, dark smooth, move.
I said once before, "Wet is comfort." Probably I'm too fishy to be a seagull;
More likely a walrus or sealion.

Here is one specific contentment: shade beside a rapids A little fall cascading down the opposite rocky bank
Fountains of the Boboli Gardens I doubt that I'll ever visit This leaves all Italian gardens wonderful imaginary eleganc
What the designer imagined but didn't get.

How to explain that everything is unimaginably splendid And horrible? Or that my life at this moment is enormous Satisfying and dreadful?
Who can resist replying, "So what else is new you got flow In the ass?" (O Spring, &c &c!)

What does the naked man say. Hot and cold, wet and dry, rough and
Smooth. Things are variously colored but that seems an impertinent
Fact. The wind is warm and dry. Lots of my skin Is still wet.

The shadow of the naked man says, "You are too fat, even if you
Stand with both hands on top of your head." The shadow of a Young man with a round head and big ears; it doesn't know How old it is.

In order to be calm and mellow
One must take time to find out what it is and practice it So that when the atmosphere becomes busy and buggy, everybody
Rushing about, seeking who to blame for the confusion They are so industriously creating...
Calm mellowness may not be necessary to me
But will be there for other folks to enjoy-supposing anybody In all the world is interested in these commodities.
The noisy creek reminds me of silk weaving looms in Kyoto.

Chill morning moonlight garden by Douanier Rousseau
Some weird bird or animal cries at 3 A.M.
Lost, meaningless, wild.
Temporarily the moon-window in the sleeping loft
Composes a picture of mountains and tree tops
In the Chinese taste, although an edge of the roof cuts a chord
Out of the circle.
If I should die the picture would decompose
The window just be a hole in a wall
The mountains would be someplace else
This probably is all about a poem I wrote sixteen years ago.

Art project day here - new mini street library for our road here in Brighton.

Lydia proudly helps decorate the street-library cabinet, touching the painted landscape on the door while Alison looks on hoping the worst can be averted

Alison carefully paints a colourful Provençal via The South Downs style landscape onto the front of a small metal cabinet, with paints and brushes spread out on the table beside her.

Alison and Lydia begin painting the little street-library cabinet together, adding the first pale-blue brushstrokes to the door before the landscape takes shape.

I shifted weight the wrong way flipping the plank end-over dumping me down in the bilge & splatting a gallon can of thick sticky dark red italian deck paint
over the fresh white bulkhead. such a trifling move & such spectacular results. now have to paint the wall again & salvage only from it all a poem.

A second bit of poetry tonight on #FreshIngredients - Gary Snyder reads a bit less of a dick than Kerouac et al to me now; the beat poet of the melancholy mountain wilderness.

Lay down these words
Before your mind like rocks.
placed solid, by hands
In choice of place, set
Before the body of the mind
in space and time:
Solidity of bark, leaf, or wall
riprap of things:
Cobble of milky way,
straying planets,
These poems, people,
lost ponies with
Dragging saddles—
and rocky sure-foot trails.
The worlds like an endless
four-dimensional
Game of Go.
ants and pebbles
In the thin loam, each rock a word
a creek-washed stone
Granite: ingrained
with torment of fire and weight
Crystal and sediment linked hot
all change, in thoughts,
As well as things.

By the last verse with its vivid frenzy of images, we are in true backstreet noir. No more talk of “we” — but the narrator escapes before blackout. Flee!! The memory of a bloodied body in a tin bath! Thoughts of a mountain tarn! Yikes; such a good song!
