Official account for "A Tennantcy To Act", a Substack (& companion podcast) where I use my decade's worth of research into David Tennant's early works to explore all things weird, rare and obscure about his career! Find me at: atennantcytoact.substack.com
One of the more obscure corners of David Tennant's career is a 1997 performance of a large part of Act II, Scene IV from 'Measure for Measure', in which he played Angelo. We know next to nothing about it--but soon I'll be chatting with its director. I can't wait to share what I discover with y'all!
Any moots going to this? ...because this girl is ~finally~ going to a con again after nearly a decade!
Tomorrow! After years of wondering whether I was chasing a ghost, it's my honor to premiere David Tennant's long-lost short film, 'Quality Control', on my Substack at 10:00 AM EDT / 3:00 PM BST! My Substack link's in my bio. Subscribe (for free) to get notified when it goes live! See you then!
A quick thanks to everyone who's recently subscribed to A Tennantcy To Act. Over 30 people have joined since I announced the upcoming premiere of 'Quality Control'! It's genuinely lovely to see. If you're new, welcome! And just so you know, there's a lot more than 'Quality Control' in my archives.
For the first time in nearly thirty years, here's a brief glimpse of David Tennant's 1996 short film, 'Quality Control'! I'll premiere the full film on my Substack (link's in my bio) on Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 AM EDT / 3:00 PM BST. Make sure to subscribe - it's free! - so you can catch it!
Yep! There were only six actors to cover all the roles, so he played three parts - Clark, Giri and Inna (and possibly a fourth role I have yet to confirm)! Here he is in a scene from the play:
Happy 55th birthday to the incomparable David Tennant. Maybe this kid didn't know "who" he'd become. But he knew he'd always be nice, learn his lines, and be on time. And he knew he'd always work like hell to hone his craft and put in the effort it took to be a good human. I'd say he's succeeded.
For me, it's gonna have to be Mr. Slightlyman from 'This Is Jinsy", or perhaps the Traffic Warden?
Happy 55th to David Tennant! Given the finale of 'Good Omens' is coming up soon, I thought it would be apropos to post this 2019 throwback...
Heya everyone! I'm back with another rare or interesting glimpse from my personal archives—sometimes it's a scan, sometimes text, or audio or video... and it always involves our lovely David Tennant. Cast yer peepers upon this! 👇
David & Georgia Tennant have established a scholarship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, beginning in the 2026/2027 academic year. Sounds like a good time for me to do a post about David's Junior School years at the institution. Expect some cool photos and exclusive content. Coming soon!
Yes! My research has shown that not only is it highly likely Cumming taught Tennant c1985 (when Tennant was a student at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland's Junior School), here they both are in late Feb 2015 after an NYC performance of 'Cabaret'...
Thanks! With my autoimmune issues, healing is a slow process even at the best of times. Right now, I look like a zombie with a bloodshot eye...
I’m still here, readers…but my two cataract surgeries were pushed farther apart due to inclement weather in my area, and healing’s taken longer than I expected. I promise I'll be back!
Post your favorite David Tennant memes that you never get to use.
Tagging @caroljude.bsky.social because Guuuurrrrrrrl... You are ROCKING your David Tennant xmas gift game. I am in 😍love😍.
The first reel's got "Des" (a 2008 ad for UFI Learn Direct), a Home Choice ad c2000 and a 2001 spot for the 'Invisible Band' album from Travis. The second reel is the 2013 Heinz Soup commercial (called 'Cold'). The third reel's from Julia Donaldson's 'Rhyming Rabbit', which David narrated in 2012.
I absolutely adore your emotional support cactus...look, its little prickly cacti arms are ready to embrace you at any moment! My emotional support figure is a Rock Smurf. If you know, you KNOW! 😉
I intend to do a much deeper dive into this collection at some point in the future. It deserves it. And after all, what's not to like about David Tennant and Shakespeare, right?
David lent his voice to seven plays — 'Henry VI', 'Macbeth', 'Richard III', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Comedy of Errors', and 'The Merchant of Venice'. The two photos Burnett released are all we’ve seen since then. Gotta admit — I'm very curious abt what other Tennant treasures her archive may hold!
n June 2019, photographer @sheilabphoto shared two archive shots of a young David Tennant — taken while she was the principal photographer for The Complete Arkangel Shakespeare, an epic BBC audio project first released on cassette (1999–2000) and later on 98 CDs in 2003.

Yes, we know Michael Sheen played Romeo first (and if this were Staged, there’d be words!)-but today’s all about David. COMING SOON (w/@smallmegapixel.bsky.social): Part II of The Sheenant Chronicles. I dive into David Tennant’s plague-ridden RSC Romeo and Juliet (2000–01). Ghosts were involved!!
