Work on the PowerPoint commences. “Feel like I’ve been here before.” #IronMaiden #StrangersInAStrangeLand #CaughtSomewhereInTime #Eddie #metalsky
Chapter idea: #IronMaiden and Accelerationism, peaking with “Somewhere in Time.” Before “Seventh Son”’s return to a form of neo-feudalism.
Trying my hand at a bit of experimental writing. Playing with/subverting the academic form. If to subvert form is either punk or virtuosic, I feel like I’m definitely in the former category. Like, Derek Bailey could only play like that because he moved beyond mastery. I’m very much a rudimentary Dr.
📣 Pleased as punch to say that my abstract for a conference next month has been accepted. It’s about #IronMaiden, time travel, and spectral tourism, following #Eddie from the East End to futural LA. Going to have some fun with this one. 🤘🏻 #UpTheIrons
📣 🚨 My chapter abstract - "Black Noise and the Urban Wyrd: Afrodiasporic Sound, Hauntology, and Liminal Space" - has been picked for inclusion in a new Routledge collection. It will study Black avant-garde sonic practice, particularly the music of #AhoSsan, #KMRU, #JessicaEkomane, and #LaminFofana.
I really enjoyed delivering this talk as part of the #Language and #Linguistics colloquium series at @yorkstjohn.bsky.social today. Really helpful in trying to articulate some of my philosophical ideas in a different register. 25 minutes worth of really interesting discussions/questions after too. 😊
📣 Here it is, my new essay in Open Philosophy (@degruyterbrill.bsky.social), wherein I set out some ideas of my “ambient metaphysics”, drop in some @litvrgy.bsky.social, and even get that long promised @billorcutt.bsky.social epigraph in there! 🫡 Open access: www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi...
📣 🚨 Receiving proofs is still a novel experience for me as an early career researcher. But I hope the thrill of seeing my work set out in a publication’s house-style never palls. Here’s the abstract for my forthcoming essay in #OpenPhilosophy journal for @degruyterbrill.bsky.social. #Sound
When two worlds collide! Reading Zillah Bethell’s “The Song Carrier” to our 7yo at bed time last night & suddenly these pages really resonated with my ideas for an essay I’m writing on @uboatheflesh.bsky.social, queer ecology, Hauntological trauma, Indigenous knowledge systems, & noise aesthetics!
“It.” I was 12 or 13 (1990). Scared the hell out of me. Only got as far as the scrawled ”It” in blood on the bathroom wall scene… That was enough for me. Went back to King aged about 19 or 20 and became absolutely obsessed for a couple of years. Bought most of his catalogue from 2nd hand bookshops.
As someone with her visage above my own on 🦋 (for that is she in my banner), it would be remiss of me not to note the sad passing of Éliane Radigue. ✌🏻

You know you’re a theory nerd when you happen across a scholar new to you and it’s like you discovered a new favourite band! This just happened with my stumbling across the Black theological work of Ashton Crawley. Very excited to read more and integrate with my own ideas! 📚 🤓
I know several of the wonderful people who have contributed/edited this forthcoming beast. Promises to be fantastic. #MetalSky #MetalStudies #PhilSky #FeministStudies 👏🏻🫶🏻🤘🏻

The Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology in Warsaw and Haus of Sleep collective are pleased to extend their invitation to a unique event combining science, culture, and art on 22 Nov 2025. It includes lectures, workshops, and performances by contemporary experimental music performers.
I’ll never tire of receiving a new book to pore over. I’ve been waiting for this one from @objectoriented.bsky.social to “drop” since I first heard about it. Penguin have exceed themselves. A beautiful hardback with grainy dust sleeve and embossed title author text. Truly an object (🥁) of beauty!
As a freshly minted associate editor for “Ecokritike” - an international, open access, blind and double peer-reviewed journal in Environmental Humanities, Literary Theory, and Cultural Criticism - I’m very proud to signal boost our upcoming online lecture from the brilliant Professor #TimIngold.
Pleasure to be involved with the PGR student symposium at @yorkstjohn.bsky.social at their upcoming free Haunted Soundscapes event on 22nd October. Some fab sounding papers in the offing showcasing a lot of the great research happening at YSJ. Details here: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/haunted-so...
Love how you appear to have also photographed the Grim Reaper!
📣 📣 Honoured to have my mini-essay, ‘Sounding the S/-cene: Merzbow, Noise, and Ontological Ambience’, feature in the booklet for the new 20th Anniversary CD pressing of “Scene” by @merzbow.net, released by California’s Mirae Arts. Shipping 7/7/25. Available in stores worldwide. #Merzbow #Noise 💿
Today is the day! The Interdisciplinary Witch Conference at @yorkstjohn.bsky.social with my fellow members of the @interdiscwitchysj.bsky.social coven. What could go wrong. Say what now?! Hottest day of the year! Cue four melted goths! 🫠 Is a @litvrgy.bsky.social tee appropriate academic attire?
