Fiber artist and opinionated Minneapolis leftist. Come for the embroidery, stay for the chaotic bisexual energy. BLM - ACAB nickeyrobo.com
Big news! I'm moving my chainstitch machine into Audrey Rose Vintage in Longfellow and I will be there every Friday for drop in embroidery done while you wait!
A few months ago I got inspired to make a few upcycled versions of The Jacket but specifically for Minneapolis! They'll be strutting down the runway next week at the Full Circle Fashion Show, come check it out! www.eventbrite.com/e/full-circl...
Hello, currently vending at the roller derby pride bout in St Louis Park at the Roc! Here's a few of my current fave items
We ripped down over 200 buildings, mostly from the late 19th century. Oh what could've been! Ironically it's arguably the cities that fell on the hardest times in the mid-20th century, the cities that couldn't afford urban renewal, that are left with the most historic neighborhoods.
Doing banner research since I can't go outside. This banner on the lower left, from a catalog of Odd Fellows regalia, is the wildest banner design I've ever seen!
Today is my half birthday and since mid-January in Minneapolis this year was a miserable time to celebrate a birthday I am claiming my right to a do-over. My partner @lifeofmonotony.com made my dreams come true getting me this giant ice cream cone from Odd Mart!
My favorite WPA benches are the ones at Washburn Fair Oaks across from the MIA, a park that is just a pleasant, bowl shaped expanse of grass and trees with no playground or other features. Just like a dozen+ benches randomly scattered around, not even on the paths.
This looks to be the same rack as in the IG post, what a weird design to have it attach at the bottom only. Seems like the screws would need to be tightened constantly to prevent it from pivoting off!
Since it's today, I share this interview w my favorite contemporary artist, Dread Scott. The controversy over his 1989 installation of a US flag on the ground at the School of the Art Inst of Chicago shaped my brain - though I never saw a photo of it til adulthood www.culturepush.org/dread-scott
Been thinking about this video from Hope Henchey, who talks about cities on instagram. Is there anything you could call an "open all day" in Minneapolis or the Twin Cities these days? I feel like there's not anymore and it's a big bummer.
Ebike panic from the New Brighton police on Facebook. Without any info about wattage or speeds there's no way to know if these specific bikes are illegal. I fear cops who don't care to learn the specifics of the emoto law will start confiscating perfectly legal bikes from kids (esp youth of color).
Thank you to @rileybruce.bsky.social for taking new promo photos of me looking both serene and chaotic, my two natural states.
Oh yeah, assimilation was definitely top of mind for those Norwegian immigrants to Minnesota 170 years ago when they came over excited to buy some stolen land. www.mnhs.org/mnopedia/sea... What a fucking weirdo creep.
Related, just got this goofy ad served to me. Considering how much I hated getting stuck listening to talk radio when I was in the car w my dad as a kid this doesnt shock me, I think enjoying non-music audio is a pretty adult acquired taste.
Happened to catch this Westminster Townhall Forum from a few months ago when I was in the car today and this moment of Rybak talking about the woman that refills his toilet paper (couldn't think of a better way to describe her???) really pissed me off.
Here's a better pic of sandwiches from their instagram. I'm surprised I haven't seen any hype for PaperBoy here on bluesky, you nerds are gonna love it. They make fresh schiacciata bread daily and all the ingredients were superb quality. It's pretty meat heavy but they have good veg options, too!
Went downtown specifically to get sandwiches at Paper Boy Deli and it did not disappoint! This place absolutely slaps, 10000/10, if you love sandwiches you gotta go. It's in the skyway inside the Baker Center, across from the IDS building.
Losing it at the absurdity of the cats in these litter box product listing photos.
I'm at Union Depot all weekend for the American Craft Fest! Come see me stitch along with lots of other cool art demonstrations and activities.
Obviously it's a matter of preference but I will say that if you have pierced ears this style of hoop is actually really easy to snatch off and it's how most cheap beauty supply shop hoops are made! Feels easy to customize.
I'm here doing embroidery at Open Streets on the 2400 block of Lyndale, come say hi!
I made a riso print of my beloved banner! I'll have these available this weekend at my pop ups at Bench Pressed and Open Streets Lyndale.
I did two art markets this weekend and rode my e-bike w a Bikes At Work trailer to both of them! While it's a little slower getting the trailer loaded than a car, I save SO much time being able to pull the whole shebang up to a booth spot and not have to wait in the crush of cars during load in/out
Recently found some sample class of 2000 senior photos that we never actually ordered real prints of and I feel like the internet should see them. Particularly proud of the absurdity of my baby zinester self posing w a typewriter bc the photo company suggested we bring props (what a little rascal!)
I Love Boosters is out and it's pretty fucking perfect. If you love fashion and weird art and solidarity forever you'll love it. Boots Riley truly is the GOAT.
