When I was shivering in bed last week, Master Cat crawled under the covers and cuddled me until I warmed up. I’m so blessed to have such caring animal friends.

Happy #Caturday I’ve really enjoyed the last few days of glorious weather. It has been wonderful sitting outside with Monster Cat, Mister Cat, and Tigger.

The first installment of Tentacle Arm, for those interested...

Monday 1st June 2026
The surgeon loomed over me. His damp hair pressed against his forehead. Stains darkened his scrubs.
“Your arm transplant was a success.”
My head felt like a meatball supported by a limp noddle. I couldn’t see past the straps tying me to the trolley.
“Why can’t I feel anything?”
“The sedation gives your body a chance to accept the new appendage.”
I fought against the drug’s pull to unconsciousness.
“When will I be able to use my new hand?”
“Why don’t you try moving your suckers now?”
Suckers? I pushed against the restraints. A thick tentacle attached at my shoulder tapered to a fleshy bulb with five smaller tentacles. The suckers on the underside of my new limb gasped like hungry mouths. I tasted the chemicals from the thin blanket covering me. Nausea rolled in a wave up my throat.
“What have you done?”
The surgeon increased my sedation. The tentacle writhed as I tried to stop him. The trolley’s metal guardrails burned against my new skin. I tasted blood and bleach.
The surgeon’s words followed me as I sank into medicated oblivion.
“You’re doing well. Rest now. You’ve another big operation tomorrow.”

Monday 22 June 2026
I emerged from the mists of anaesthesia to find nurses bustling around me in the recovery room. I wasn’t strapped down this time. I grabbed the bars at the side of the gurney and pulled myself into a sitting position. It galled me that my tentacle arm was so much stronger than the one nature had given me. My feet burned, but if they roasted in front of an open flame, it was in another location. My legs ended at the knee in bandaged stumps.
“What are you doing to me?”
A nurse rushed to pump sedative into my drip.
The doors swung open as another trolley was pushed into the room. A thrill of fear ran through me at the sight of the magnificent orange furred creature unconscious upon the gurney.
The surgeon appeared above me. His smile was gleaming and predatory.
“Don’t worry, you won’t be legless for long.”
My gaze flickered to the moist tentacle arm. Perhaps my truncated legs would be better than whatever he had planned for me next. I had to escape, but I didn’t have the strength to roll off the trolley and crawl away. The sedation was too strong.
