With the Player-facing side of the rulebook mostly complete, I can expand upon the Game Master side of Undead Paradise. This includes the various creatures and their statblocks. Below is an example of a Terraformer creature; the Orbrey. Terraformer creatures have a TN of 9, and the habitat ability.

How do Undead die in Undead Paradise? Death in Undead Paradise occurs when a Character loses their sentience, reverting back to a feral zombie. If a PC depletes all their Core Memories, they have 3 attempts at stabilising. Failing that, all Memories are erased & the PC becomes a hostile undead.

Going Feral
PC Death in Undead Paradise occurs when the Character loses their sentience and reverts back to a feral zombie. This is referred to as “Going Feral”.
If a PC depletes all their Core Memory Elements, they become unconscious and have three attempts at maintaining sentience.
To attempt stabilisation, the unconscious PC must roll 2d6. If the total exceeds 9, they regain consciousness and 1 Element. However, if the total falls below 9, they completely erase one third (rounded down) of their Core Memories. Once a Core Memory has been burned in this fashion, it cannot be recovered.
On their second attempt, they roll again. If the total exceeds 10, they regain consciousness and 1 Element. However, if the total falls below 10, they completely erase the majority of Core Memories. The TN for the third attempt is 11. If they fail that, all Core Memories are erased and the PC is declared Feral and will reawaken in one hour as a hostile undead.

Adversaries Going Feral
If an adversarial reawakened undead has all of their health depleted, resulting in their death, they begin to turn Feral. Unless their body is properly disposed of within the following hour after death, they will reanimate as a Feral Zombie.
To properly dispose of a body turning Feral, it must be disintegrated, whether that be via burning, acid, or other means of destroying the physical husk.
Feral Zombies will attack anyone and anything they encounter, and are typically much more dangerous than the average adversary. Therefore it is advised to take careful consideration when engaging in combat against other undead lest an outbreak occur.
A concentration of Feral Zombies also poses an environmental threat to the mutated wildlife within Undead Paradise. Predators and Titans will gather towards an area where Feral Zombies are spreading, and eliminate any undead they find in order to avoid any further destruction of their habitat.

Let's talk creature design. The ecosystem in Undead Paradise is divided into 4 tiers: Vermin, Terraformer, Predator, & Titan. Each tier on the food chain serves a function. Therefore, when players encounter creatures, understanding their goal can lead players to overcome encounters creatively.

Each of the 4 creature classes in Undead Paradise. There's Vermin - creatures that desolate an area. Terraformers - creatures that convert the area. Predators - creatures that eliminate threats in an area. And Titans - creatures that command an area.

Writing continues on my #ttrpg Undead Paradise. I'm working on the full game experience covering levels 1-5. Each level progresses the character's journey as a reawakened zombie; acquiring a new Core Memory with each upgrade.

This page details how Core Memories are made in Undead Paradises.

The lore explains that when the world fell under complete control of the infection, every living thing became united under a shared consciousness. The infection that turned humanity into zombies suppressed their concioussness and buried their memories deep within the confines of their minds. Once the infection’s mission was over, with the entirety of humanity turned and the planet terraformed, the zombies were given back control. Along with free will they regained their fundamental memories.
For the reawakened zombies, their Core Memories are the pillars of their free will. Without those memories, they lose control and revert back into a feral zombie once more.
In Undead Paradise, these memories play a key role in how the players engage with the game. PCs will utilise Core Memories and Recent Memories throughout their journey to measure their character’s health, draw upon for inspiration, and track their character’s development.

The most important parts of each Core Memory are known as Elements. These represent the essential building blocks of a particular memory and will act as the armour for your PCs Core Memories.

At level 1, each character begins with two usable Core Memory spaces on their character sheet (Past and Loss), and four which they may gain access to later in play (Reawakening, Feral, Hope, and Achievement). In time, these memories will be shaped and replaced by experiences of play.
In the appropriate Core Memory space on the character sheet, write a single sentence description of the memory. It must contain at least three Elements. Several Elements of a memory may be of the same type and still count towards this requirement. Once created, pick three of the Elements to be the most significant to your character. Write one in each of the three boxes for that Core Memory on the character sheet.

The morning glow of the sunrise that bathes the decayed city, reflecting off the skyscrapers’ myriad of windows and drying the dew from the colourful array of wild vegetation, is a beautiful scene. It is a shame that there is no one left to behold it.

With free will comes the conflict of ideas. Communities, each with different opinions on how to live in this new undead existence, will form. For some, the objectives of these factions will clash, bringing the human element of war back. Below are some factions included in #ttrpg Undead Paradise:

Bunkerborn
The surface is toxic. That is a phrase plastered on signs and engraved within the hearts of every being in the undercity. Even if the word toxic is not meant on a scientific level, it is treated as such in a religious way. The broken world of the surface-dwellers is chaotic and corrupt. War, greed, and ignorance brought about the end of humanity. For the undercity to prosper, its people must cut away from the ideas of the surface world.

Hellspawn
Revel in freedom. Such is the only law that governs the Wastelands. The Hellspawn are an anarchic cluster of gangs who believe that the reawakening is their reward after the trials of the zombie apocalypse. They have been freed from the damnation of hell and have spawned into a new world absolved of sin and consequence. For the Hellspawn, the old world is over. The only priority is to have as much fun as one desires.

Remedy
We will find a cure. This has been Remedy’s mission since the zombie outbreak began. Scientists from around the world collaborated under Remedy’s banner until global communications collapsed. Unfortunately, humanity was completely overtaken by the infection before a cure could be discovered. However, that has not stopped Remedy’s efforts. Even now they search for a way to reverse their zombie transformations. They hope to live again and restore humanity.

Scholar’s Coalition
We will rebuild. This slogan is cheered at all gatherings within the Scholar’s Coalition. The faction’s objective is to return society to how things were before the zombie apocalypse. To achieve this goal, the Scholars traverse the ruined landscape, searching for knowledge and the means to reconstruct the pre-apocalypse lifestyle. Bureaucracy will survive, even if humanity does not.

After playtesting a One shot for Undead Paradise, I've received great feedback about the flow and balance of the game. Taking on the notes that were discussed in playtesting, I'll be experimenting with a new mechanic and incorporating some of the factions into the session. #ttrpg #ttrpgdesign

Memories play an important part of my #ttrpg game. Therefore, I've been working on a resource to help new players create memories for their character. Roll 3d6. Use the tables to gather Memory Elements. Once you have 3 Elements, string them together into an important memory for your character.

An Explanation of the Memory Generator. In Undead Paradise, memories play a key role in how the players engage with the game. Your character’s health, inspiration, and progress is measured through memories.

Elements
The most important parts of each Core Memory are known as Elements. These can be broken down into:
• A specific person, individual or other animal
• A specific place, location or area
• An object or group of items
• A group or organisation
• A particular topic or subject.
• An action, event, or strong emotional experience.
Level 1 Character
Each character begins with two unlocked Core Memory spaces on their character sheet; Past and Loss. They can be found in the middle of the character sheet, along with their three important elements.

Roll 3 six-sided dice. Use the tables below to gather Elements for your memory. Once you have three Elements, string them all together into an important memory for your character.

For Example:
Rolling on the table below for a Past Memory, I ended up with the prompts; Uncle, Hardware Store, Familial Bond, & Hat.

Picking three of them, I came up with this memory:
“When the outbreak began, to help calm my fears, my uncle took me to the Hardware store and bought me a Hardhat, promising me that it would protect me from danger.”

There are eight Pre-generated characters for players to pick from including a reference guide on the back which has a summary of their character on the bottom left-hand side of the page. Underneath the background summary, there’s a question for them to answer to help them attune to their character.

Unlike most of the wild creatures in Undead Paradise, people prefer to retreat when it’s clear a fight’s not going their way. Reawakened Zombies have a counter under their Health Points called “Morale Points”. When a combatant runs out of MP, they will decide if it’s wise to keep fighting or not.

The devastated urban sprawl has been reclaimed by nature, as alien vines creep up collapsed skyscrapers and colourful, vibrant trees sprout in its streets. Animal life has flourished, from birds nesting in the hightop apartments, to the foxes and rats scavenging for berries in the shops. #ttrpg
