Wildfires are getting more and more devastating because of global warming, which is primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Trump won’t say that because he’s in the industry’s pocket. If he wants compensation for the wildfire smoke, he should go after the oil and gas giants responsible.
When the US struggles to put out wildfires, Canada has always been there to lend a hand. But when Canada struggles with the same, all Trump has for us are threats and insults. Canadians are tired of it.

The Liberals have used their newly acquired majority to push through major changes to Canada’s laws at the last minute and shut down debate on legislation with major implications for the lives of Canadians. This is not normal. This is what happens when a government thinks it can act with impunity.
Another crammed Air Canada flight, delays and cancellations, grumpy people, crappy WiFi… But half of us are on cloud 9, peering at stuttering images from Vancouver, cheering wildly! What a game.
4/ Meanwhile, Minister Solomon offers a retail sales pitch for potential powers of a new regulator that won’t exist for at least 18 months. Instead of just banning surveillance pricing & protecting us from other forms of digital spying & extraction. Bill C-22 is a disaster & should be withdrawn.
Prime Minister Carney says the war in Iran was "worth it". I want to know who he thinks it was worth it for.
When the system is rigged for the rich while the 99% struggle to afford the basics, public ownership is how we take back the economy.

6/ Plus tard, à Rideau Hall, je suis tombé sur une peinture époustouflante de @christibelcourt.com, une fenêtre sur la vision du monde autochtone percée dans le bâtiment même de l’État colonial. Wow.
5/ Deux autres enjeux pour lesquels les Canadiennes et Canadiens ont élu Mark Carney, pour finalement constater qu’il nous mène dans la direction opposée. J’ai donc saisi l’occasion pour remercier Louise Arbour d’avoir commencé son mandat en abordant ces enjeux majeurs.

Quand l'un des plus fervents défenseurs du climat au sein du Parti libéral se sent obligé de quitter le caucus pour lutter contre les changements climatiques, cela en dit long sur le sentiment d'urgence du gouvernement à traiter ce dossier. Il n'y en a aucun.
When one of the Liberals’ biggest climate champions feels he must leave the Liberal caucus in order to fight climate change, it says everything you need to know about the government’s sense of urgency on this file. There is none. PM Carney has abandoned climate action at our collective expense.
2/ It is shameful that government ministers express indignation for Canadians when they have utterly failed to show it for Palestinians, who have endured untold cruelty for the better part of a century.
1/ It’s a relief to hear the Prime Minister express some moral outrage over Ben-Gvir’s brutish behaviour, outrage which has been missing during Israel’s attack on Iran, bombardment of Lebanon and ongoing genocide in Gaza.
When people can’t afford the necessities of a dignified life, it's the government's job to step up and actually govern.
Mental health is part of your health. It should be part of our publicly-funded healthcare system. What do we think is worth spending money on in this country? Why does this government have billions available for major projects and for bullets and bombs but not for projects that benefit all of us?
The government should be protecting our public airports, not selling them off for parts. History is littered with examples of the failures of privatization. It drives up costs for the public, quality suffers, and workers always end up paying the price.
The spring economic update was a missed opportunity to address the crushing cost of living crisis. In a country as rich as ours, there is no reason life has to be this hard.
