How many ancient genomes are there now? Back in 2019 I estimated the growth to be about 10x every 3 years. There was a bit of skepticism when I posted this.

I think it's equally if not more misleading to think of 'ancestral populations' as somehow existing in the past and then ending after a split. Contra this note, contemporary populations are indeed representative of ancient ones in certain aspects, being their descendants.
