Not too bad for a strictly limited 2 hours throwing and 2 hours trimming. They’re not particularly good but they’ll be ok for the glazing class I’m doing
I think these alterations are done, now to trim, carve and sand. The first three bells are in the bisque kiln now
Porcelain bell #4. I was really in the zone with this one, only did 2 pulls to get the cylinder up, didn’t even put my apron on
I think this was a pretty successful test of my capillary action glazing idea. I didn’t apply anything to the outside of this - I put a very thick layer of shino on the interior, let it dry until it cracked and peeled away, then removed it and reglazed inside with celadon. Unfortunately its cracked
I nominate this guy to be the senate candidate for Maine
Sanding makes such a huge difference. Still a bit more to do but looking much better
Carved. This is the worst-looking stage but after its bone dry and all the bevels are sanded it’ll look better. Hopefully it’s carved thin enough to let light through
When I was a kid I really wanted to have a job that involved one of these. Tbh I kind of still do
The start of a carved porcelain bell that will have a little oil lamp for a clapper
She’s got speed in the straights but we’re still dialing in the braking points
A buddy just sent me this logo he drew up for his Ithaca-based pickup hockey group
tfw you find yourself in a fractured and hostile landscape that you can neither navigate nor comprehend
This one would have been acceptable if I didn’t fuck up the glaze. Maybe I’ll splash some other stuff on there and refire it (although my general posture is refiring is for the weak of heart, so I may just bust this one up into bits to use in my bonsais)
Big porcelain bowl experiment, maybe the best of this kiln load (which isn’t saying much). The crawling is a bit extreme but I do like the outside, which is unglazed - the color is from the soda ash in the shino absorbing through the clay from the inside. Promising but not exactly a success
It’s fine. Everyone at the barbecue is going to love your pecan pie. It doesn’t matter that it’s out of season. It’s fine.
