Just put the July 22 aka final editions of the FP Community Review papers to bed. It’s been a slice!
Son was looking thru old photos from my old punk rock days. “Dad, do you think I’ll be as weird as you were when I’m 20?” he asked. “Oh, I’m sure you will be,” I told him. “In your own way.”
Very pleased to share The Garden, a story that took over four years and multiple complete overhauls to write, with you today. thedodgemag.com/summer-2026-... Thanks to @thedodgemag.bsky.social for believing.
Tomorrow, a story about gardening, ritual, generational haunting, and bones that I’ve been working on for years will see the light of in @thedodgemag.bsky.social hope you’ll read and “enjoy”.
Thanks to MC Joudrey, Lindsay Wong, David Jón Fuller, & Richard Zaric for reading last night! What a wonderful evening here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada!
Enjoyed lunch with Winnipeg’s finest rink attendant today. Great to see Bubba out and about in the community. What a beauty!

Dug on the garden for two hours this morning to beat the heat. Don’t think I’m ever getting ahead of the weeds this year. At least the deer, rabbits, birds, butterflies, and bees are all getting something out of it.
Leveled up the annual Arnold Ave end of school picnic to official block party status this year. 😎
Weekend mode engaged @israelbonilla.bsky.social @malarkeybooks.bsky.social
Looking forward to this one @suzyeynon.bsky.social @malarkeybooks.bsky.social
For example, the background for this post was done by my daughter at daycare, and it took me 5 minutes to type the info and cut the paper up. It’s not great! But it’s not slop, either! Ps hope to see you out July 8, Winnipeg!
Interviewed John Samson Fellows, one of my favourite writers and all around great local dudes, about transit funding, protest songs, and community, along with Laura Cameron from Manitoba’s Climate Action Team. Got drenched and hailed on, but it was lovely.
Lookin forward to digging into this @davidjonfuller.bsky.social 🍻🎭
Looking forward to reading & reviewing this bad boy for the Freep.
Forgot about how hard Shooting Guns goes for a minute there. Best to never forget, you guys.
Lone find at the RVCC garage sale this year. Big fan of the story The Loons from this linked collection.
Great time at the reading last night, you guys. What a beauty evening here in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Gonna read this missive from the future at tomorrow’s wild & wonderful words to kick off a stacked lineup of local and out of town readers! Should be fun, hope to see ya there, Winnipeg www.bruisermag.com/birnie_future
Gardening isn’t writing. But the two share a lot in common, as far as learning, repetition, perseverance, and the amount of work it takes to get anything worthwhile out of the practice goes. You gotta enjoy doing it for the sake of doing it, ya dig? Thrilled to get back in the garden this weekend.
May have donated 3 stacks of CDs to the community centre garage sale but still have a banker’s box I cannot part with. A real trip to go thru it all. Physical media, baby!
