Solid crowd (surely much overflow from Dacha and Ivy) at Jake’s Tavern on both floors for the World Cup final today. Folks enjoyed Shakira at halftime. People really are into iced tea + vodkas now **nostalgizes in Firefly**
Gallery O on H is counter programming against the Indy Car race on August 22nd. www.eventbrite.com/e/not-so-gra...
Here's a couple screenshots of spots that have streatery applications pending. A huge number are in Georgetown so they will just use the Georgetown BID's approved streatery permit. Many others only applied so they could keep using their old one as long as possible with no intention of rebuilding
Here's a list of streateries that have been approved So if a spot on the list recently closed it, it just means likely they're replacing it with a smaller one compliant with the new DDOT regulations
Checked out Donsima at La Cosecha about a month ago (they/their PR co invited me to get a couple free donuts and a drink). Creative donut spot with Latin American flavors founded by chef of MITA. Also has location at the Square downtown
Haven’t seem something like this yet (Obvious typo aside): Cuba Libre has blocked use of their streatery (which DC literally altered its design for 9th St. NW bike lane for) for now while their DDOT streatery application is pending
Interesting - after a 2 year hiatus (and attempt by Nats to do their own thing last year), Enchant is coming back to Nats Park Nov 20-Dec 27
Anna Spiegel for Axios with a few HH specials www.axios.com/local/washin...
SPIN, the ping pong bar/club downtown, closed on June 27th. Opened back in December 2018. Fact that it stayed open 6 years past pandemic is a feat in of itself
Del Mar at The Wharf has a very solid 3 course $32 lunch Tue-Fri Noon-3p (paella option requires 2 people to get it) Went on Friday, great meal
My dad became a naturalized citizen 50 years ago today on the bicentennial. Here’s a pic that was published in our local newspaper then with both US Senators from WV and the local Federal district judge
Nice (sweaty) time at my first ever Barracks Row Fourth of July parade, and got to walk in it for the Capitol Hill Cluster School. Too Much Talent playing right now at Eastern Market Metro (free hot dogs, cokes, water there too). Til 3p fam fun at Eastern Market hall
For yall with Chase Sapphire cards who are still in town this wknd but want to get the fuck out of town tomorrow night (we may have booked one of those ourselves)
First time at Mi Vida at The Wharf. Great HH 11:30a-6p weekdays They have an upstairs bar too.
DDOT going with bike lanes (unprotected) on 18th in post-streatery Adams Morgan (vs a hardened median option they were considered)
Daru doing all night HH through Tuesday. The $10 chicken tikka masala/rice/garlic naan is one of DC’s best deals
Kraken Kourts & Skates in Edgewood is getting rid of public roller skating (still available for field trips) after 3 years. Guess they’ll have to rename it
The Metrorail 8000 series prototype (worker says ideally testing starts late 2027 and operational a year later) is def the highlight of the Mall right now. Old 1000 there too Access is easiest through the FIFA zone - cross 7th and hang a right following “exit signs”
Still plenty of space (and some seats) available at Astro Beer Hall downtown. Game room in basement will be the best vibe for USMNT tonight. Good food special here
Checked out the FIFA Fan Zone on the Mall since was a rare situation when I didn’t have a bag (enter at 7th). Very big space - most people here in shade waiting for later game. Beer priced like stadium (16 oz $12 Mich ultra or $14 Stella).
Breakfast tacos will be $2.50 each (instead of $4.89 - yes that is what tacos cost nowadays) at District Taco for a week starting tomorrow in honor of the 250th
This is definitely the largest (by 100k) temporary liquor license application I’ve ever seen (don’t even know if they really need it on the National Mall)
Great rainy day activity if your kid loves legos. Springfield VA’s Lego Discovery Center. Here’s a link that gets a kid free with adult admission ($33). Spent 5 hours here before www.legoland.com/lego26kgf/
World Cup watch party at Union Station today. Though looks like they only have one screen so showing half the 3 matches
Toki Underground on H Street has a solid HH with $3 off ramen, $2 off appetizers, $4 draft beer, $2 off cocktails, $5 Yuzu sake. 5-6:30p weekdays, 11:30a-5p weekends
